SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Center for the Visual Arts is seeking several seasonal Summer Camp Program Instructors to enhance our thriving visual arts nonprofit serving the greater Wausau area. Our Summer Camp Instructors will work closely with our Director of Education and Education Interns to ensure a safe, fun, and educational camp experience for summer Artventure campers.

Our Summer Camp Instructors will focus on the classroom operations for the Center for the Visual Arts Summer Artventure Camps including; curriculum building, supply management, teaching week long camps, student check-in/check-out, and resetting the classroom after camp. Summer Camp Instructors may apply to our pool of instructors and select their schedule based on camp theme and timing. This is an independent contracted teaching position. Instructors are required to commit to a minimum of one week-long camp session between June and August.

Job Requirements:

• Availability to teach during the following instructional hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm with two 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch, Monday through Friday
• Punctuality, reliability, and time management are a requirement for this position
• Experience working with elementary-age children and families is preferred
• Experience teaching visual arts preferred

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of people
• Demonstrates understanding and agreement with CVA mission, goals, and objectives
• Possesses initiative, good judgment, and the ability to problem-solve
• Develop and implement art lesson plans for students of various ages and skill levels
• Teach students various art techniques and mediums, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media
• Provide guidance and support to students in exploring their creativity and developing their artistic skills
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves through art

Skills:

• Educate: Ability to effectively teach and educate students in various art techniques and mediums.
• First Aid: Knowledge of basic first aid procedures to ensure the safety of students.
• Behavior Management: Ability to manage student behavior in a positive and constructive manner.
• Classroom Management: Proficiency in managing classroom dynamics and creating an inclusive learning environment.

Instructors must exemplify compassion, inclusivity and mindfulness, while encouraging students to appreciate different perspectives and learn from one another.

In order to ensure student success and address possible instructor illness or emergency, we ask that all instructors work closely with the Director of Education. Lesson plans for each project and the corresponding material lists must be submitted to the Director of Education no later than two weeks prior to the start of your teaching assignment.
