Job description

This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Description, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The persons selected for this position will assist with numerous Animal Sciences research projects. Much of the duties will be designated to studies involving rangeland grazing, bale grazing, and corn residue grazing. These jobs will include but are not limited to, beef cattle handling, plot preparation, laboratory work including grinding samples and sample preparation for analysis, data entry, and collecting various samples such as rumen fluid, soil, forage, and cattle weights. This position is a 40+ hour/week position with the opportunity to work overtime with appropriate compensation. Some night and weekend work may be required.

Requirements & Competencies:

  • This includes, but is not limited to the following responsibilities.

  • A working knowledge in beef cattle handling
  • Be capable of working outside, collecting data, and handling cattle in good and poor weather conditions
  • Enter data using excel and prepare samples for data enter; however, we are willing to train willing candidates.
  • Basic understanding of livestock husbandry
  • Ability to drive farm equipment, including ATV and tractor
  • Candidates must have the ability to work through a variety of environmental conditions including but not limited to high temperatures and precipitation.
  • Candidates must have the ability and willingness to work both independently and as a member of a team. A team player is highly recommended.
  • Valid driver’s license is required for this position.
