The University of Maine at Farmington is seeking candidates for Academic Instructors for the Summer 2024. There are two different classifications. Please be specific on what position you are applying for or if you are applying for both.  Please see below for the summary and specific functions.

 

Program Dates: June 17, 2024 through July 19, 2024, plus possibly July 21, 2024 through August 2, 2024.

 

 

Residential Instructors are full time salary positions, weekly salary is:  $816.50

 

Academic instructors provide daily instruction to students both in and outside of the classroom in one of five subject areas: mathematics, composition and literature, foreign language, lab science, and college/career development. Instructors function as classroom teachers who are responsible for curriculum development, instruction, and assessment. Residential instructors also provide supervision and tutoring during formal and informal study time.

Non-Residential Academic Instructors work 25 hours per week. Weekly salary is: $510.25

 

The Academic Instructor is to implement an intensive college experience for high school students, participating in Upward Bound. Academic Instructors provide daily instruction to students both in and outside of the classroom. Instructors work a minimum of 5 weeks, with the potential for an additional 2 weeks, Monday- Friday 8:00 am -1:00 pm (2:00 pm 1 day per week for staff meeting).

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree (expertise in one of the following areas: Mathematics, Science, English and
    Composition, World Languages, or Career and College Development)
  • Teaching experience (minimum student teaching)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teacher Certification
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Valid driver's license (in good standing, based on UMS standards)
  • Personal experience with, or understanding of, the challenges faced by low income students who
    will be the first in their families to attend college
