Job Summary:
The Recreation Intern will gain the knowledge necessary to be successful, well-rounded professional. Acquire exceptional program management skills in the program areas of tots, youth, teen, older adults, fitness, dance, day camp, gymnastics, aquatics, athletics, and leagues.
Qualifications:
Must be a current student of an accredited university pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Sport Management, or a related field, looking to complete an internship. Student must provide own transportation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
A. General Administration
  1. Familiarize yourself with the regulations, policies, and procedures of the park district.
  2. Students will work in the areas of program development, facility management, written and oral communication, human resources, budgeting, purchasing of equipment or materials, training of employees, evaluation of both programs and personnel, customer service, park maintenance, operational, and program manual development.
  3. To be willing to work the times and days assigned to you, including evening and/or weekend hours.
  4. To be tactful, friendly, and courteous, and respectful to all. The manner in which you conduct yourself will reflect on the Lombard Park District and on its public image.
  5. To attend all recreation staff meetings unless specifically instructed otherwise.
  6. To visit observe and participate in all phases of the agency's operation.
  7. To attend assigned meetings including EAC and Safety Committees.
  8. To make the most of any free time you may have while in the office-ask questions, offer to help others, study manuals, magazines, and books available for your information.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
B. Safety, Health, and Loss Control
  1. Support, promote, and make recommendations regarding all safety, health, and loss control policies as adopted by the park district.
  2. Be familiar with the Employee Safety Manual.
  3. Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
  4. Responsible for providing all injury, illness, and health information required by the Lombard Park District in its effort to assign tasks within an individual's capacity to prevent potential injury or illness.
  5. Responsible for notification of injury or illness relating to a task management as described within the Lombard Park District Employee Safety Manual.
Marginal Functions
  1. General setups.
  2. Inventory of supplies.

  1. Computer operation.
  2. Written and oral communication skills.
  3. Driving.
  4. Phone operation.
  5. Mathematical skills.
  6. Marketing and publicity skills.
  7. Public relations.
  8. Website development and updates.
Psychological Considerations
  1. Ability to handle stress, multiple projects, and sudden deadlines.
  2. Must be articulate, personable, and able to speak publicly, especially in impromptu situations.
  3. Must be able to interact and work with individuals from various backgrounds, including sponsors, advertising agencies, seniors, community volunteers, teens, professional staff, etc.
  4. Must be able to respond to deadlines.
Physiological Considerations
  1. Prolonged hours seated at a desk.
  2. Ability to drive a car.
  3. Must be able to operate a computer, camera, and other audio-visual equipment as needed.
  4. Prolonged hours of computer use.
Environmental Considerations
  1. Activities performed indoors and outdoors.
  2. Exposure to inclement weather while driving or assisting at outdoor activities.
  3. Exposure to fluorescent lighting for extended periods of time.
  4. Exposure to inclement weather on occasion.
  5. Exposure to indoor temperatures (moving from air conditioning to excessive heat).
  6. Exposure to inclement weather while indoor (tornadoes, brown-outs, black-outs).

Requirements
  1. Exceptional skills in oral and written communication.
  2. Ability to problem solve and interprets situations.
  3. Knowledge and capability to utilize Microsoft Office modules (Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point).
  4. Ability to work with people.
  5. Valid Illinois Driver's license.
  6. Be able to lift 20 lbs. and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assistance for lifting over 20 lbs.
