Job description

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

 

NRDC is seeking a Photo Editing Intern to work with the Multimedia team associated with our New York office.

Position Summary

The Photo Editing Intern collaborates with Photo, Video & Design Teams within the Multimedia Department. This position will report to the Photo Director and will have the opportunity to manage photo research and editing projects for editorial, social and digital advocacy & fundraising materials. The candidate will gain experience and knowledge licensing imagery from a variety of sources including stock agencies and directly from photographers. They will also gain an understanding of the process of commissioning original artwork (photography/illustration) for an environmental non-profit organization.


  • Assist in research and selection of stock photography and footage for various editorial, fundraising, and social media projects
  • Upload and organize images within the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system
  • Prepare and maintain projects in Photoshop & Figma
  • Help to create call sheets & shots lists for photo productions
  • Assist on commissioning illustrations and photo shoots.
  • Participate in weekly Multimedia and Content team meetings

Required

  • Motivated, proactive, dedicated, hardworking, self-starter with a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
  • Passion for environmental justice and/or the climate crisis.
  • Experience in photography and visual storytelling.
  • Strong visual aesthetic and knowledge of Photo Editing.
  • Photoshop knowledge/experience.
  • Commitment to NRDC’s values and mission.

 

Preferred

  • Interest in design and/or video editing.
  • Desire to learn basics of video editing and motion graphics (programs include Premiere Pro and After Effects).
  • Desire to learn basics of design (programs include Figma, InDesign and/or Illustrator)

This position is a paid internship with a stipend of $6,000 paid bi-weekly over the course of 10 weeks.
The incumbent will not qualify as an employee, fellow, volunteer, or independent contractor of NRDC, nor will the incumbent be guaranteed employment at the end of the internship term.
