Job Description
- Participate in the development of policies, strategies and materials for use by the Utilities to support outreach and education with policymakers.
- Provide analysis, talking points, presentations of energy and environmental studies that can support energy and environmental strategies, education and outreach with policymakers and internal/external stakeholders.
- Provide analysis of policies and rulemakings that could impact SoCalGas and its customers.
- Participate and cover legislative/regulatory proceedings and provide comments/testimony where needed.
- Track and provide analysis of local/regional planning efforts.
- Coordinate and lead ad-hoc teams as needed to develop technical analysis of third part policy related studies and their potential impact to the Utilities.
- Provide support and leadership in facilitating and implementing policy engagement plans.
Responsibilities
- Update and manage environmental policy priority database and internal database of contacts.
- Track legislation, regulations and other environmental policies and inform the team about relevant dates and times.
- Identify and summarize technical studies related to our policy priorities.
- Review and categorize comments and positions from stakeholder groups.
- Conduct research as necessary to support our environmental policy positions.

Qualifications
Education
- Enrollment in a four-year university Bachelor's or Master's or PhD program.
- Must be graduating Fall of 2024 or later.
- Sophomore, Junior or Senior Standing for undergraduates.
- Desired majors: Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science and Sustainability.
- A 3.0 Cumulative GPA or above is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must have knowledge in research, policy, sustainability, and environmental programs.
- Strong communications skills. This position requires constant communication with people of various levels of work experience; must be willing to learn from others, be self-motivated to perform tasks that are simple or complex.
- Must be able to analyze significant amounts of data and develop multiple options and scenarios in reaching decisions.
- Must be able to manage and implement multiple projects and to coordinate assigned activities and individual projects.
- Knowledge of project management software tools, PC operations, spreadsheets, CAD, mainframe, networks, and MS Office preferable.
- Must clearly and concisely communicate technical information and concepts in formal and informal settings with other departments in the company.
Other Qualifications
- Be able to work 30-40 hours per week during the Summer (10-12 weeks) with a flexible work schedule.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship.
