SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSES
GENERAL DUTIES: The School Nurse is responsible for health services at the building level. The nurse acts as a resource for the prevention and control of communicable diseases, provides assessments of illness or injury with appropriate intervention or referral, conducts a variety of health related screenings, oversees the administration of prescribed medications, acts as a resource person to parents and staff and maintains the health records of students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a current Connecticut license
- Knowledge of the prevention and control of communicable diseases
- Knowledge of current state medical regulations and school health procedures
- Ability to work well with students and adults
- Ability to maintain accurate records
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Provide emergency care to students and staff as needed.
- Oversee the administration of medications, nursing treatments and procedures as prescribed by the student's physician, dentist, physician's assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
- Confer with and provide information to parents, staff, administrators, and students on the prevention and control of illnesses and communicable diseases.
- Attend team meetings to aid staff and parents in the interpretation and translation of significant health problems as needed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed health records on all students and logs of medications dispensed to students in accordance with State statute.
- Provide individual health counseling to parents, students and school personnel.
- Perform other health related duties within the scope of current Nursing Practice in the State of Connecticut as requested by the building principal, Director of Pupil Personnel, the Superintendent of Schools, or School Medical Advisor.
SALARY:
- $25.00 per hour
- 6 ½ hours and ½ hour for lunch
