We have a full-time position available for a Substance Use Disorder Counselor based in West Des Moines, IA with regular coverage in Ankeny, Iowa. We offer a competitive hourly wage and benefits package.

Report To: Clinical Supervisor

Job Summary:

Substance Use Disorder Counselors assist clients in achieving goals through counseling services.

As part of UCS Healthcare, team members will follow all laws and regulations, including those at the Federal, State, and Local level. They will also adhere to all UCS policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality, HIPAA/ 42CFR part 2, and all CARF requirements. All team members will operate in alignment with UCS Healthcare's core values, work effectively in a team environment, provide or support patient-centered services, and strive to assist UCS Healthcare in delivering the highest level of care.

Essential Functions: (70%)

  • Conduct initial assessment, admission, and transition planning
  • Provides individual and group counseling to patients
  • Maintain a client caseload in accordance with assigned duties
  • Participate in quality assurance meetings and counselor staffing's
  • Develop individualized treatment plans
  • Complete documentation for patients in required time frame
  • Evaluate treatment plans and define goals with patients served as required by level of care
  • Maintain patient charts and data as mandated by state, federal and agency requirements)
  • Regular Attendance is required.

Other Functions: (30%)

  • Assess progress of patients served in relation to the treatment applied on an ongoing basis.
  • Coordinate delivery of treatment modalities
  • Collaborate treatment functions with outside agencies.
  • Apprise supervisor of problems encountered in caseloads.
  • Attend approved conferences and meetings to secure and maintain credentials.
  • Monitor and provide coverage for agency crisis line.
  • Implement evidenced based curriculums identified as appropriate by management.
  • Interpret referral paperwork to determine appropriate level of care.
  • Engage in a fast pace, problem solving workflow.

Minimum Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • Associates degree.
  • Certified or able to obtain CADC certification within one year.
  • Must excel in team environment.
  • Adhere to agency policy and procedures, engage in critical thinking, and utilize problem solving skills.
  • Ability to use de-escalation skills in resolving conflict when necessary.

Preferred Education Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • Current CADC with Iowa Board of Certification.
  • Experience with group facilitation, understanding of Substance Use Disorders, and comprehension of counseling theories.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • A valid driver's license is required (an Iowa driver's license is required within 30 days of hire) and liability insurance or an equivalent means of personal transportation and coverage as travel within the state of Iowa may be necessary.

Work Schedule: Our counselor's schedules are based on programming and will total to 40 hours per week. Program hours can vary from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, including Saturdays.

Work Location: The location of this position will be based on the need for clinical presence. Work may be assigned to any of the agency office locations (West Des Moines, Ankeny, and Knoxville) and will be primarily based in West Des Moines but will have regular weekly responsibilities in Ankeny, IA.
