Position: Student Transition Specialist
Location: Beekman Center
Starting Date: October 23rd, 2023
Hours per Day: 8 hours per day (1.0 FTE)
Work Days per Week: 5 days
Salary: Starting at $45,355

Qualifications:
  • A Masters degree is required.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Two years of experience in Youth Service Programs working with adjudicated youth.
  • Experience working with school district personnel and/or community based organizations that serve youth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Communicates with students, parents, guardians, district and court staff, and other agencies as directed;develops and maintains a professional rapport with program staff; demonstrates sensitivity to needs ofstudents.
  • Conducts workshops for families and students on transitions to their resident high school or post-secondaryoptions; maintains confidentiality of information regarding students.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports for Title I compliance including Transition Plan, Assessments Data,Attendance Records, IEP, student progress, pertinent information, transcripts, number of intakes/records,incident reports, and various related information for periodic reporting for accountability according to Stateand Federal standards.
  • Maintains a caseload of students; acts as liaison for students, families and other related agencies involved inthe transition process; assists students in completing various forms and obtaining documents for transition,training, and education; provides interventions when necessary; conducts a variety of risk/needsassessments; assists in developing Student Success Plan (SSP); participates in meetings with staff andagencies to provide information and recommendations.
  • Knowledge of general activities and functions of a Juvenile Court and Community Schools program;challenges, behaviors and needs of at-risk populations; basic research techniques; software applications,data collection and dissemination.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where onlylimited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram,or schedule form.
