The primary purpose of this position is to serve as MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT in support of various test area or laboratory operations. Prepares a wide variety of recurring correspondence, internal reports, and other documents.

Duties
****This position is temporary and has a Not-to-Exceed date. However, this position may be extended to the fullest legally allowable period without competition. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds.****
  1. Performs clerical/assistant/support work involving the application of a body of standardized rules, procedures, or operations to resolve a variety of standard, recurring requirements.
  2. Carries out recurring and routine work, following supervisor's direction regarding work to be done, priorities, and specific procedures/guidelines to be followed.
  3. Communicates with individuals primarily in own organization in order to exchange information and present findings.
  4. Clearly communicates status of assigned tasks.
  5. Interacts with customers on routine issues to communicate information and clarify instructions for tasking within area of assigned responsibility.
  6. Contributes to specific aspects of the team's responsibilities.

Requirements
Conditions of Employment
  • Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time as defined by the education institution (typically six semester hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three semester hours or equivalent for graduate students)

  • U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws

  • Must maintain good academic standing, generally at least a 2.0 GPA for undergraduate programs and a 3.0 GPA for graduate programs on a 4.0 scale
  • Must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement; furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term
  • Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act and eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws
  • U.S. citizenship is required for a noncompetitive conversion to a permanent or term appointment with the Department of the Air Force.

Qualifications
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity, this position may be filled at the GS-01, GS-02, GS-03 or GS-04 grade level depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements.
In order to qualify, you must meet the generalized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Student Trainee Positions. Failure to submit transcripts, proof of acceptance or current enrollment in an accredited college/university will result in an ineligible rating.
DU-0399-01, Pathways Intern Student Trainee STUDENT TRAINEE (MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT) encompasses a pay range equivalent to the GS-01 through GS-04. Qualifications for pay setting purposes will be based on the applicants' current academic level as described below:
For GS-01 equivalent: Current enrollment in a high school diploma program AND at least 16 years of age
For GS-02 equivalent: Completion of high school diploma or equivalent AND acceptance or current enrollment in an accredited college/university
For GS-03 equivalent: Completion of 30 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.)
For GS-04 equivalent: Completion of 60 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.)
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

This position is located at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Aerospace Systems Directorate, Rocket Propulsion Division, ???????Engines Branch at Edwards Air Force Base, ???????CA.
The length of Internship is normally two years or when you complete your academic program and degree requirements.
This internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study relating to their career path, to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment
PCS is not authorized; travel and relocation expenses are not authorized. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Air Force. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
The entire period served under the Internship Program counts as the participant's trial period.
Interns may work part-time or full-time schedules.
Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act.

How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
At the option of the Agency, students who successfully complete all educational, work and other eligibility requirements of the program may be considered for conversion to a permanent or term position upon completion of degree requirements. Please note: conversion potential is at management's discretion and based on factors such as budget, organizational need, student performance, education, etc. Conversion is not guaranteed.
Interns may be considered for noncompetitive conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements, IF they meet the following:
  • Are a U.S. citizen
  • Successfully complete an academic course of study with a GPA of at least 2.95 (GPA 3.1 for certain engineer positions)
  • Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship Program
  • Meet the OPM Qualification requirements for the position the intern may be converted to
  • Maintain acceptable performance
