Assignments may include evening, and or weekend, and off-campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
(NOTE: **denotes Essential Functions)
  1. ** Under the supervision of the He Loa Ke Aho Title III Project Coordinator, works with Native Hawaiian students in Leeward's Associates in Hawaiian Studies, Associates in Natural Sciences and Associates in Teaching programs to provide targeted onboarding and ongoing Student Support services including but not limited to advising, registration, financial aid assistance, and resource referrals.
  2. ** Work in close collaboration with the Cultural Educational Specialist, Media Specialist, Kipuka Native Hawaiian Center personnel, counselors, faculty and staff, and community partners to research, design, write, develop, distribute, and maintain online digital student resource manuals that support Native Hawaiian student success in targeted degree programs.
  3. ** Researches and identifies major barriers to Native Hawaiian students' success and creates, designs, organizes, and executes student workshops, seminars, and supports that address identified college success barriers.
  4. ** Works with college program counselors and student services personnel to provide extensive outreach and onboarding support to Native Hawaiian students enrolled in targeted degree programs. Services include but are not limited to financial aid assistance and financial literacy, registration and advising, and resource referrals.
  5. ** Plans, organizes, conducts, and evaluates financial aid application and outreach events on campus and in the community. Provides information regarding all aspects of financial aid programs including but not limited to application procedures, determination of dependency status, budget and money management, and clarification of eligibility determination.
  6. ** Creates and maintains accurate records, statistics, and databases on support services offered, students served, and other data required to fulfill the needs of the grant. Presents data orally and in writing as needed to stakeholders.
  7. **Works with the Media Specialist to build attractive and accessible email brochures, newsletters, e-fliers, presentations, or other communications materials using programs such as Mailchimp or Canva.
  8. Function as an integral team member within Leeward CC's Kipuka, Native Hawaiian Center at Pu'uloa.
  9. Other Duties as Assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Counseling, Education, Social Sciences, or related field and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing Student Support services and information; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in Student Support services or the onboarding process demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with Student Support services or onboarding services.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in providing Student Support and onboarding services.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organization, groups, team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Native Hawaiian student groups.
  9. Willing to travel independently in a timely and efficient manner to various locations on Oahu.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience working with diverse and/or disadvantaged student populations and their families in an educational setting.
  2. Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, language, history, community issues, or resources.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of the financial aid process and financial aid programs.
  4. Experience with organizing workshops and events for students and/or parents.
