(Student) Science Lab Assistant-Lettinga
WORK LOCATION:Grand Rapids - Lettinga Campus
DEPARTMENT:Academic-College of A & S
POSITION PAY RANGE: $12.00 - 12.50, Hourly
TARGET HIRING RANGE:Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding.
SUMMARY:
This position will assist the Science Lab Coordinator and Science faculty in organizing, stocking, and inventory of the supplies and equipment in the Science Lab while assisting in various administrative duties. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision and cultural values.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for assisting Science Lab coordinator and science faculty as directed.
2. Assisting with lab setup and cleanup for all open labs as assigned.
3. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment as assigned.
4. Assisting with lab inventory of models and equipment as assigned.
5. Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating files and record keeping systems.
6. Generate reports, memorandums, correspondence, presentation materials, spreadsheets and graphics, and other materials using various software programs.
7. Handling of documents and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
8. Conducts special projects, research and assignments as needed.
9. Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
10. Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
11. Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Successful completion or enrollment in Science courses: biology, chemistry, and microbiology.
• Complete training in lab safety, chemical awareness and use of lab equipment.
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate and 3 credits for a graduate and meeting the standards of academic progress.
• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe).
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
• Business office and laboratory environment. Exposure to known chemicals and microbial agents. Prolonged sitting and standing.
• Use of computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
