As a member of the Patient Transport Team, you will receive supervision and training to ensure that our patients are transported safely from one point to another on their journey towards recovery. Your duties will include transporting patients, charts, and equipment throughout the hospital and clinic areas. This position provides an excellent chance to establish connections within the healthcare system and explore a variety of career paths available at Henry Ford Health.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transports the combined weight of equipment and patients safely and efficiently with transporter between nursing units, diagnostic areas, clinics, emergency department, the morgue at some sites and other areas of the hospital.
- Acts as the secondary customer service liaison for the hospital during the transport of patients. Communicates customer service-related issue to proper nursing or management staff.
- Transfers patients to and from the bed to wheelchair, stretcher, etc. May be required to move furniture in patient's room and seek assistance from nursing staff in order to successfully transfer the patient.
- In case of fire or other internal disaster, assists in evacuating ambulatory patients to appropriate locations as designated by management.
- In case of community disaster, assists nursing in making up extra stretchers and other duties as assigned.
- Ensures transportation equipment is in good working condition. Makes simple repairs to equipment if appropriate, reporting serious problems to dispatcher to place a work order for repair.
- Cleans and sanitizes wheelchairs and stretchers before and after every patient use.
- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, environmental and infection control standards.
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental/interdepartmental objectives.
- Constantly communicates between Transport Partner and Patient Transport Dispatcher.
- Completes annual mandatory education.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Possess excellent organizational skills, interpersonal and customer service skills. Must be able to communicate effectively in person as well as over the telephone.
- Must maintain confidentiality of patient and unit-care data per HIPAA regulations.
- After initial training must be able to consistently demonstrate proper lifting techniques.
- Must be able to pass all HFHS pre-employment requirements.
- After initial training, must be able to comprehend and utilize technology associated with transport management software. This includes processing work requests through HFHS issued technology.
