JOB SUMMARY:

Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital is looking for Student Nurse Interns for June 4th, 2024 start. The program offers selected nursing students the opportunity to work at Ranken Jordan as a Nurse Assistant.

In this role you will be following established policies and procedure, renders safe, appropriate nursing care and treatments under the direction of a Supervising Staff Nurse for neonatal, pediatric and/or adolescent patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the policies and mission of Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. Protects patients, visitors, and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Care: Performs prescribed and ordered, safe and appropriate nursing care and treatments under the direction of the Supervising Staff Nurse. Appropriate nursing care includes but is not limited to obtaining vital signs, ADLs (bathing, assisting with dressing, oral care, toileting/diapering, oral feeding, tube feeding), obtaining patient measurements (weight, height, OFC), measuring and recording intake and output, transferring patients in and out of bed, sterile straight cauterization, catheter care, and making occupied and unoccupied beds.

Communication: Uses clear, concise, and legible documentation of information in the medical record. Provides accurate, concise, and ongoing report to supervising Staff Nurse and team members. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patients and other protected health information at all times. Consistently creates and contributes to an exceptional patient experience by establishing a compassionate environment through timely responses to patients' needs, practicing open communication, while consistently providing physical, emotional, and psychological support to patients and caregivers.

Planning: Plans and organizes workload, setting priorities for optimal patient care. Functions as a member of the team as measured by active participation in department initiatives, unit meetings, committees, and special projects.

Professionalism: Functions within the standards set forth by the Clinical Services Department and Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. Represents Ranken Jordan in a professional manner through communication and appearance. Knows and follows the mission of Ranken Jordan.

Safety: Delivers quality patient care under the supervision of a Staff Nurse in the safest manner possible. Follows Ranken Jordan policy regarding hand hygiene. May assist in patient transport as directed and supervised by Staff Nurse. Advocates and provides support for patients during physician visits, clinic visits and emergency visits to the hospital.

Education: Attends in-service educational opportunities when available.

All other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager/Supervising Staff Nurse.


STUDENT NURSE INTERN JOB PURPOSE: To engage and support qualified candidates interested in working as a nurse assistant while pursuing their nursing degree and remain with Ranken Jordan upon graduation. This role will allow the candidate to participate and enhance their critical thinking skills, nursing process and documentation, and care team collaboration for patient care. Student Nurse Interns will either be categorized as a Student Nurse Intern I or Student Nurse Intern II and will be compensated based on their level within their nursing program.


Interested Student Nurse Interns must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in an Accredited Nursing Program
  • Have successfully completed Fundamentals in Nursing
  • Have current Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
  • Eligible for graduation no sooner than 6 months
  • Commit to working:
    • Week1 - Orientation (Mon-Fri)- 8:30am - 5pm
    • Week2 (Mon-Sun) Student Nurse will be scheduled 24-36 hours during this time period- 2-3 12 hr shifts
    • Week 3(Mon-Sun) Student Nurse will be scheduled 24-36 hours during this time period- 2-3 12hr shifts
    • After orientation work PRN hours which is- 2 12hr shifts per 6-week schedule (1 night or weekend shift) and 1 holiday of their choice per year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

These include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, standing, carrying, and lifting of heavy loads (up to 35 lb.).
