This position is contingent upon continued state grant funding.
Location: Under direction of Health Services Supervisor from central office with travel to all schools in WCPS
Salary: $28.75 per hour
Hours: Maximum 21 hrs/week .
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and two (2) years nursing experience
Possession of a valid appropriate license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Maryland
Possession of or ability to acquire appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the School Board
Responsibilities
Provide effective communicable disease control including immunization surveillance
Identify health problems that interfere with learning
Promote vaccinations to student families who are non-compliant, assist with setting up appointments with the WCHD or PCP to receive vaccines
Collaborate with school and community agencies to provide educational, social and Health Services to the local school population
Provide health counseling to students and parents/guardians regarding special needs
Serve as a resource person on an as needed basis
Check in, educate, and monitor newly diagnosed diabetic students to assist them with building confidence and independence
Perform hearing and vision screenings of students, help parents connect with agencies that provide financial support if they cannot afford glasses
Provide education and awareness to students for hygiene, nutrition, exercise programs, risk reducing behaviors
Organize and carry out preapproved social media messages to promote wellness that can be shared with schools during daily announcements
Assist families new to the area with connecting with a PCP for wellness checks
Assist with COVID-19 testing and contact tracing as needed
Perform related work as required
