COMPENSATION RANGE: 35,590.00 - 41,100.00 USD per year

Position Summary:
Serving the College of Humanitiesand Social Sciences (HSS) as one of the Faculty Support Specialists (SFSS), the key function of this position is to support faculty members and unit leaders (andsubsequent support for HSS students) within the College of Humanities andSocial Sciences.
Serving as one of two SFSSs dedicated to facultysupport, this position will work with~50% of the academic departments within the college, i.e. Africana Studies;Anthropology; Chicana/o and Latinx Studies; Communication and Journalism Studies; Criminology and Criminal Justice; Economics; English; GenderStudies; Geography, GIS, and Sustainability; History; Leadership Studies;Philosophy; Political Science and International Affairs; Sociology; and WorldLanguages and Cultures. The specific units assigned are subject to changedepending on specific needs.
While thesupport will vary among the departments and throughout the academic year, ourFaculty Support Specialist can anticipate providing project-based support that aids in student success and retention efforts ,e.g., referring student to appropriate resources, supporting departmental operations, supervising student staff members for each unit, and attending departmentalmeetings to record minutes and offer additional support where appropriate.
The SFSS will work collaboratively with a variety of faculty members and staff within HSS and across theuniversity.
This position is Part-Time with an overall FTE of .88.
Job Duties:
35% Direct Faculty Support
- Assists with department-specific projects/tasks.
- Collaborates with members of the Administrative Service Center (ASC) and refers faculty members to the correct ASC team member(s) and other resources on campus when appropriate.
- Records meeting minutes during weekly, biweekly, or monthly meetings across units (frequency varies by department).
35% Oversee Student Employees
- Recruits, trains, and directly oversees 12-15 student employees for the College. Oversight will include ongoing training, accountability, development, evaluation, scheduling, and support with evolving job responsibilities and office procedures. The SFSS will ensure that the student employees are also committed to creating an equitable and inclusive space for all members of the UNC community.
10% Record Maintenance and Data Liaison
- Utilizes databases, and computer programs to log interactions and generate/distribute data for department-wide outreach efforts to support student retention and success.
10% Unit Operations and Oversight
- Maintains office supply inventory and equipment maintenance for assigned HSS units.
- In coordination with the unit leader, helps maintain the physical space for the assigned units,
e.g. record maintenance, facilities requests, and coordinating student workers as they maintain a professional andwelcoming space.
- Primary point of contact for unit signage, digital monitors, bulletin boards, and websites
while collaboratively generating content with the HSS Communications Specialist.
- Serves as a proactive support person to students by anticipating needs and concerns while alerting faculty and unit leaders to potential concerns.
- Provides logistical support for guests of the department, e.g. acquiring a parking pass.
10% Other Duties as Assigned
This position requires excellent collaboration and organizational skills. Incumbents in the position must balance multiple facets,such as project management, digital communications, and providing oversight support for12-15 student staff members.
The Faculty Support Specialist works in many collaborative capacities and must be able to work individually as well. They will often be required to make independent decisions. To successfullyexecute their job responsibilities, the position is responsible for fullyunderstanding university regulations and policies and should be well versed inthe types of support services available to students and faculty on campus, andin the community.
This position requires expertise, initiative, independent and analytical judgment, thoroughness,attention to detail and deadlines, technical savviness, and gooddecision-making and problem-solving skills. It is a highly collaborative position, requiring a supportive approach while serving faculty in thecollege.
Minimum Requirements:
Earned a high-school degree or equivalency and 1-2 years of front-facing work experience.

Proficiency using computers with Windows operating system.
Preferred Requirements:
Ideally, this position will have excellentwritten and interpersonal communication skills; attention to detail;proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, willingness to learn avariety of software platforms; a strong work ethic; high degree of energy; experience working with students from historically marginalized identities,and a demonstrated ability to work well with students, faculty, parents, andstaff.
