Student Counselor (Lmhc/Lmft)-112723

We have a part-time position available for a student counseling intern reporting to a Clinical Supervisor for our offices in West Des Moines, Ankeny and Knoxville. This opening is only for clinical supervision under a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

UCS Healthcare is a CARF-accredited, non-profit health care organization based in Des Moines, Iowa with additional offices in Knoxville and Ankeny and medication units across the state offering medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opiate/alcohol addiction. Our Student Counselors will be paid a competitive hourly rate and are expected to work between 16-30 hours per week.

Reports to: Clinical Supervisor

Job Summary:

Student Counselors will assist clients in achieving their goals through individual and group counseling services, under the supervision of a CADC, LMHC, LMFT or LISW to obtain field experience, meet their school expectations.

As part of UCS Healthcare, team members will follow all laws and regulations, including those at the Federal, State, and Local level. They will also adhere to all UCS policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality, HIPAA/ 42CFR part 2, and all CARF requirements. All team members will operate in alignment with UCS Healthcare's core values, work effectively in a team environment, provide or support patient-centered services, and strive to assist UCS Healthcare in delivering the highest level of care.

Essential Functions (80%):

• Provides individual and group counseling to patients.
• Conduct initial assessment, admission and transition planning.
• Complete documentation for patients in required time frame.
• Maintain a client caseload in accordance with assigned duties.
• Participate in quality assurance meetings and counselor staffing's.
• Develop individualized treatment plans for each client.
• Evaluate treatment plans and define goals with patients served as required by level of care.
• Maintain patient charts and data as mandated by state, federal and agency requirements.

Other Functions (20%):

• Assess progress of patients served in relation to the treatment applied on an ongoing basis.
• Coordinate delivery of treatment modalities.
• Collaborate treatment functions with outside agencies.
• Apprise supervisor of problems encountered in caseloads.
• Attend approved conferences and meetings to secure credentials.
• Monitor and provide coverage for agency crisis line.
• Implement evidenced based curriculums identified as appropriate by management.
• Interpret referral paperwork to determine appropriate level of care.
• Engage in a fast pace, problem solving work flow.
• Keep employer informed of internship program requirements and needs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Education and experience as required by the school for field experience placement and provide proof of enrollment.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Must excel in a team environment, adhere to agency policy and procedures, engage in critical thinking, and utilize problem solving skills.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel)
• Communicates information and ideas in a manner that is clear, organized, and detailed.
• Can assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
• Acts in an empathetic manner in working with clients who may have multiple problems.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Ability to work with a diverse client population and a variety of treatment modalities (group, individual, in-jail, methadone, correctional/legal system, and so on).

Physical Requirements:

• Accessible by standard company communication methods on a continuous basis during working hours.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• A valid driver's license is required (an Iowa driver's license is required within 30 days of hire) and liability insurance or an equivalent means of personal transportation and coverage as travel within the state of Iowa may be necessary.

Work Schedule:

Based on the programming assigned, work hours will vary to meet needs of school, credentialing, and licensing expectations. 16-30 hours per week is expected. Hours vary from 6am to 8pm Monday-Thursday, 6am-5pm Friday, and including 6am-2pm Saturdays. You may be assigned to any of the agency office locations (West Des Moines, Ankeny, and Knoxville).
