Job Summary:

Community Living Supports Person for 19 year old man with Down syndrome
Parents seeking a student of medicine, law, or education who look forward to serving clients with disabilities in their future employment
The position will include taking our son to activities in the community that coincide with his goals of socializing, grocery shopping, managing finances to pay for meals or activities such as movies and concerts, and physical exercise at the YMCA, hikes, or at dances. The job would also include assisting with cooking skills and meal planning at home and other skills to become more independent at home. He has a CLS worker who takes him to youth group on Wednesday nights but he may need a substitute on Wednesdays if the CLS worker is busy.
This young man is a black belt in taekwondo, reads music and plays piano, takes swing dance lessons, works out at the Y, is very involved in his church, loves God, animals, music, video games, food, and dancing. His communication skills are very limited but his dream is to be a DJ some day. He’s a lot of fun to hang out with and we are seeking someone who will support his interests and enjoy being with him.
This will be a side job with limited hours that may change weekly depending on each person’s availability. The days could be any weekday or weekend at any hour until midnight depending on the activity. The max hours per week would be 20 hours. The applicant must be available soon and throughout the summer

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

  • Non-smoker
  • Good driver with a clean, reliable, car to transport him in
  • Willing to befriend a young man with Down syndrome without patronizing him.
  • Background check required
  • Pay will be every two weeks and direct deposited
