POSITION SUMMARY:
Ideal candidate must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience and be able to read and understand prints and fit from drawings Structural Steel assemblies. Structural Steel Fitter is responsible for utilizing drawings to fit and assemble Structural Steel products for a variety of industrial projects. This position will participate in the layout and assembly of a multitude of structural components for steel fabrication.
Class A: All abilities of A-below plus ability to mentor other fitters. Consistent top performer and or unique skill or ability. Exemplary attendance record and safety record.
Class A(-) Able to read and interpret the most complex prints and weld symbols as well as fit and lead a crew fitting complex assemblies. All items from Class B
Class B: All abilities of B- below plus ability to train a Class C fitter to become a Class B fitter
Class B(-) Able to read and understand more complex prints and fit from drawings more complex assemblies with little or no assistants. All items form Class C
Class C: Perform all duties of a Class A Helper. Able to read and understand some drawings. Capable of listening and following instructions. Able to fit up sub-assemblies with little help
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Structural Steel fabrication industry
MUST HAVES / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
1. Candidate must successfully pass a drawing test before employment offered.
2. Must be able to read and understand drawings, codes and specifications.
3. Strong background in blueprint reading.
4. Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, time management, stress tolerance.
5. Ability to multitask.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
1. Team work is essential in this position. Candidate must have a positive attitude and be able to work effectively with co-workers and supervision.
2. Must adhere to all safety values and procedures, actively participate in Safety meetings and promote company safety culture.
3. Will ensure all established fabrication procedures are followed.
4. Keen eye for safety and efficiency.
5. Job requires lifting and walking all day in indoor, Fabrication shop environments.
Fitter/Fabricator Test
CANDIDATE TESTED ON THE FOLLOWING
3- Sets of drawings with 15-20 questions each
1- Plate girder set
1- ASME shop-built tank set
1- General Mechanical Set
