Job Description
Job Summary/Purpose:
The position of the structural draftsman is responsible for design work, including, but not limited to custom building designs, customer requests, with well thought out planning, research of structural components and execution of the design to be sure its occupants are safe and comfortable. The designer will use one or all of our design tools to work hand in hand with an engineer for approval of structures and the ultimate goal of stamp of approval.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must have a valid driver license and a clean driving record.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times, especially when in contact with customers, contractors, vendors, and other employees.
- Ability to use our CAD software – AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Sketchup, FrameBuilder-MRD, Truss D&E, ScotDesign, Flash Cut CNC.
- Answer incoming phones and learn our Metal Shop program to make estimates, orders for customers. As needed. This program is also used for All Metal Structures as well.
- Ability to read and create drawings and blueprints.
- Answering incoming phone calls as needed.
- Create Quotes using our software quoting system, which would include the structural components as well as exterior sheeting and components.
- Site visits are sometimes required to obtain accurate measurements and for quoting purposes.
- Have a Teamwork mindset.
- Must be self-motivated to make efficient use of time.
- Attention to detail is a must!
- Sense of urgency and work diligence.
- Keeps work area (office/company vehicle/shop areas) clean of trash and clutter.
- Maintain and wear all required safety and health personal protective equipment as required.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- A high school diploma.
- Degree or Certificate in Drafting. Working towards a degree in Engineering is a plus.
- Other training and experience will be considered. Will train for this position.

- Mathematical - Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, and decimals. Ability to do complex integrity and design analysis.
- Reasoning - Ability to solve complex problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Language - Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, shop drawings, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to communicate with others to convey information effectively.
