Structural Designer

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for completing project designs and detailed drawings as well as BOM’s within the planned time schedule and within customer guidelines as required. Structural Designer must be able to interpret complex engineering specifications and apply those specifications to the design of components and sub-assemblies using sound design principles, creative and independent judgment. Structural Designer works in team environment under the direction of Design Manager and Lead Designer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Actively participate in required job status meetings as required
• Seek information to complete assigned tasks
• Professionally communicate with Design Manager and Lead Designer to gather the necessary information needed to generate and/or make changes/adjustments to drawings
• Appropriately manage time and report any adverse progress to the completion of tasks to the Design Manager and/or Lead Designer
• Accurately assess equipment specifications for drawings
• Generate detailed drawings as directed by Design Manager and/or Lead Designers while following all procedures and company standards
• Accurately and efficiently generate shop drawings
• Confer with Design Manager or Lead Designer on changes and adjustments to drawings
• Responsible for the creation of accurate BOM’s
• Travel to customer sites as projects require which may include field verifications and/or design review meetings

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibility.

TRAVEL

The employee will travel at times up to 10% when the job site is not close to the main office or when responsible for two or more job sites.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours of work per week.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Familiarity with AutoCAD and other Autodesk products: Revit, Advance Steel, Inventor
• Familiarity with Solidworks and PDM software
• Ability to work under strict deadlines and manage time
• Strong oral/written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization
• Ability to work with a diverse set of personalities
• Strong visualization skills
• Basic understanding of IVI’s fabrication processes and capabilities

REQUIRED EDUCATION

• Currently pursuing Associate Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Design or equivalent work experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION

• Associate degree in Mechanical or Architectural Design or equivalent work experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration when visiting job sites. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions at job sites. The noise level in the job site environment can be loud, the noise level in the office environment is normally quiet.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl when at customer job sites. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
