Structural Design Intern

Marks is hiring an Industrial Design Intern for our Marks Chicago studio! The internship will be three months total, hiring for mid-May to mid-August.

The Industrial Design Intern is responsible for supporting the design and engineering teams while performing a variety of tasks for consumer package and product development projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in packaging design, possess excellent design skills, and be eager to learn and contribute to real-world projects.
Primary Outcomes
As an Industrial Design Intern at Marks, the primary outcomes for your position include:

• 3D modeling in Solidworks and rendering in Keyshot
• Brainstorm concept visualization via analog and digital sketches
• Rapid prototyping, including use of 3D printers, CAD cutting table, and vacuum former
• Assisting designers and engineers in design, prototyping, and testing of new product/packaging solutions

You Will Learn To

• Work in a professional and fast paced creative environment with a variety of clients and industries
• Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas and solutions
• Use rapid prototyping tools to create mock-ups and functional prototypes
• Create sketches, renderings, and 3D models to visualize design concepts and communicate ideas effectively
• Attend client meetings as needed to provide design support and creative problem solving

Job Skills and Requirements

• Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchbook, SolidWorks, Keyshot, or similar
• Strong sketching and rendering skills to communicate design ideas visually
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability principles related to packaging design
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate ideas effectively
• A portfolio showcasing relevant design projects and skills is required
• Able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in time critical situations
• Comfortable working within a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to seek assistance when appropriate
• Good problem solving and organizational skills

Education and/or Experience

• A Junior or Senior working toward a BS degree in Industrial Design
• Strong knowledge of Solidworks, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Keyshot experience desired
