This is key technical role would act as the lead for all Structural Analysis including static, aero, fatigue, vibration, cfd, and vibracoustic. The person would have ownership of the FEM models and work closely with sub-contractors for detailed simulations including load development, static, and dynamic Structural Analysis. Systems include airborne pods and mounting aerostructures for payloads developed for government customers in the aerospace industry. The successful candidate would be a key contributor to the mechnical / aerospace team. Focus will be on analysis work, but this person would be involved in the full lifecycle of the airborne projects and support abbreviated portions of adjacent projects in other domains.
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering group is a high performing team with a breadth of experience in mechanical design, electronics manufacturing, electronics packaging, structural, and aircraft integration. The level III Strucutral Analysis Mechanical Engineer will perform the following: Analysis of mechanical components and assemblies for airborne systems. Support design engineers in selection of materials, structures, hardware suitable for application in the payload. Support testing to validate engineering analysis models. Work closely with partners to convert vehicle operation envelop definition and customer requests into analysis requirements. Review sub-contractor analysis results. Advise team on design maturation for mechanical performance. Software utilized will be Solidworks, NASTRAN, PATRAN, and Ansys.
- ABILITY TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A SECURITY CLEARANCE.
- Minimum of 5 years in Mechanical Engineering Experience or Equivalent (Master's degree may be used).
- Bachelor's degree in Aerostructures, Mechanical, Aerospace engineering, or similar.
- Subject Matter Expertise in the fundamental principles for performing mechanical design and analysis including static and dynamic structural, vibracoustic, fatigue, and vibration. Highly Proficient with NASTRAN.
- Proficient with Ansys, Design Modeler, and Spaceclaim.
- Familiarity with linear and non-linear analysis.
- Familiarity with analysis of aluminum, carbon fiber, and fiberglass structures. Hand calculations and FEA experience.
- Familiarity with and ability to use and manipulate technical drawings in mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks or similar.
- Ability to work across mechanical, aeronautical, electrical, and materials engineering disciplines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills.
- Works well as a part of a team.
- Good interpersonal skills including a passionate and can-do attitude.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Basic machine shop and small part fabrication experience.
- Composite and Aluminum design and fabrication experience.
- Proficient with additional analysis tools including Ansys Icepak or Sherlock.
- 5+ years of experience with airborne systems.
- Experience with aerospace vehicle or flight hardware.
- Experience with airframe or airborne stores design.
- Expertise with MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-8591, MIL-STD-8856, MIL-STD-1763.
- Expertise with thermal management and CFD.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or similar advanced degree.
- Clearance: Not required to start. Must be able obtain and maintain a security clearance (minimum Secret). Clearance processing will be completed by the U.S. Government. Factors considered for a U.S. Government Security Clearance include but are not limited:-U.S. Citizenship (Required)-Favorable Criminal History Check-Education Verification-Abuse/Illegal Drug Use-Credit Check-Subject.
