Position Summary
The Streets & Right of Way Supervisor coordinates and reviews the daily activities of the crews to ensure that Streets & ROW maintenance and construction projects are efficiently completed.
This position requires a regular Class-D Driver's license.
This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Education, Training, Experience, Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Education / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalent
Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Four years directly-related work experience and at least one year in a supervisory capacity
Education and/or experience preferences: none
Driver's License requirement: Frequent Driver -- Regular Driver's License Required Endorsements: None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge: Correct operation of equipment to ensure adherence to OSHA safety practices and guidelines. Proper work zones to ensure that signage, traffic control and safety procedures are followed.
Skills: Must be able to type rapidly and accurately enough to successfully produce documents/spreadsheets, communicate via e-mail, or perform data entry as necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the position. Use of technology, equipment and software typically used in the office environment. Read and interpret engineering blueprints and operate heavy and light equipment and tools efficiently and safely; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Abilities: Ability to read, comprehend and carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to write correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information to employees and customers. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with other department supervisors and managers on routine assignments and special projects. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. External: Works with contractors and the general public on public works projects and resolves complaints. Presents a friendly, courteous image for the City to the general public, customers, and public officials.
Essential Functions

• Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
• Issues written and oral instructions to subordinates on work product, priorities, timelines, and task specifications.
• Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications.
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve department and employee productivity.
• Maintains harmony among subordinates, and resolves conflicts and grievances.
• Prepares work summaries and reports for submission to management.
• Works with subordinates to address errors, omissions, and complaints in order to maintain effective customer relations.
• Assists subordinates in performing their duties recommends and provides training on the correct operation of equipment to ensure adherence to OSHA safety practices and guidelines.
• Directs laborers, truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, mechanics and clerk. Emergency call out, decision making skill on this function: High.
• Assists in reviewing job sites, work assignments, scheduling and equipment and materials needed to complete a project.
• Records and maintains job activity logs.
• Conducts employee performance evaluations, recommends disciplinary actions and resolves employee complaints.
• Reviews plans and blueprints, oversee assignments in the field to ensure specifications, grades and guidelines are followed.
• Checks job sites for proper work zones and that signage, traffic control and safety procedures are followed.
• Prioritize preventive maintenance and repair of equipment to minimize down time.
• Perform public relations with customers.
• Weekend standby coverage for emergency call out as assigned.
