The City of Auburn Engineering department is looking for a talented Stormwater Management Inspector to add to our team! This position performs office and field work in support of the City's implementation of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program permits and the requirements of the City's Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater permit issued by the Department of Ecology for all construction projects and construction activities within City limits
Our ideal candidate is highly organized and proficient in Stormwater Management inspection activities, record keeping, technical writing, detailed reporting, and customer service.

Primary Duties
In this role you will:
  • Assure compliance with the City's Surface Water Management Manual (SWMM) through inspection, enforcement, reporting and preparation of documentation.
  • Implement the City's SWMM by conducting inspections, making field observations, recommendations and coordinating enforcement with the city's Code Compliance Department.
  • Work courteously and effectively with contractors, developers, customers and other employees, both in person and over the phone.
  • Support the management of stormwater runoff and dust and debris by addressing issues related to construction activities on both development and city projects.

Minimum Qualifications
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR...
  • Associates degree in an environmental science, plant science, geology, or related environmental field
AND
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL), Geotech, wetlands/plant science or in an environmental program,
OR
  • a combination of education, training, and successful experience that indicates the applicant would successfully complete the primary functions listed above.

WE WOULD LOVE IF YOU HAVE...
  • A current CESCL certification. The hired applicant will be required to attend a two-day certification course within 30 days of hire if they do not possess a current CESCL certification. The City will schedule this upon hiring.
  • Knowledge in monitoring construction sites and contractors.
  • Knowledge of water quality monitoring and techniques.
