General Duty Statement
Here's what you can expect in the Storekeeper role:
Performs advanced level support and manual work involving the ordering, receiving, storing, and issuing of materials, commodities, equipment, tools, and supplies. Receives, stocks, issues, and delivers a variety of supplies, materials, tools, and equipment. Inspects supplies and materials to ensure compliance with purchase specifications.
Maintains vendor product information, contacts, and receives vendors regarding products. Performs periodic, special, or perpetual stock inventory. Reviews user comments and applies them to provide improved customer service and efficiency, for reducing costs. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Information About the Current Opening:
The current full-time opening is in Saint Paul Fire Department. It requires working in all types of environmental conditions. The typical work schedule is 7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Occasional overtime is required on nights, weekends, and holidays.
Typical Duties (Examples do not include all duties performed):
  1. Maintains, orders, receives, inspects, and stocks all tools, hardware, parts, supplies, and equipment for assigned department.
  2. Lifts equipment, tools, and supplies of up to 50 pounds, maneuvers them around obstacles, and under adverse conditions.
  3. Uses a forklift to load and unload materials and a floor jack for pushing and pulling materials to proper location. Ascends/descends ladders to place, count, and remove inventory.
  4. Participates in annual inventory; counting, preparing daily reports, and resolving issues.
  5. Reconciles problem invoices and resolves issues related to material shortages and vendor discrepancies.
  6. Maintains good housekeeping, keeping the storeroom and shelves clean and well organized. Ensures the aisles are clear and free of hazards.
  7. Creates, and maintains parts inventory and equipment records in various enterprise resource software programs.

Positions within Fleet Services:
  1. Works directly with repair technicians to identify parts, supplies, and apparatus for small equipment, automobiles, heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and maintenance garage facilities. Determines replacement parts needed.
  2. Assists with monitoring underground motor fuel storage levels and fuel ordering as needed.
  3. Assists with the operation and maintenance of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and motor fuel storage tanks, pumps, tank monitor systems, fuel dispensers, and other related fueling equipment.
  4. Picks up and delivers parts and vehicles including heavy duty Class 8 vehicles.
  5. Determines replacement parts required, according to inspections of old parts, technician requests, or internal customer descriptions of malfunctions.
  6. Refers to parts manuals to determine exactly the right parts or replacement parts for the make, model and year of vehicles and equipment being serviced.
  7. Assists customers using knowledge of parts and their features and understanding of various types of equipment, vehicle systems, and mechanical components.
The eligible list created from this assessment will also be used to fill Storekeeper positions as they become available in various departments within the City.

Requirements
Two years of experience performing clerical and manual work involving the ordering, receiving, picking up, delivering, storing, issuing materials, equipment, and supplies, and associated duties.
Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out of state driver's license.
For Storekeeper positions in Fleet Services only: Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License or higher within twelve months of employment. The CDL must have no suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses during the two year period prior to the date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Knowledge of vehicle systems, equipment, and mechanical components.
  • Experience using a forklift.
  • Experience ordering, shipping, and disposing of hazardous materials.

Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
