Job Title: Retail Shift Supervisor - Jacksonian Plaza Goodwill Select Store

Department: Donated Goods Retail

Reports to: Retail Store Manager

Classification: Non-Exempt / Hourly

Supervises: All retail employees located at their designated location, under the direction of Retail Management.

Position Summary: The expectation of this position is to achieve organizational, team and personal goals that align with our mission and the services we offer.

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Store Manager and Assistant Manager in presenting a clean, safe work environment, while overseeing the daily operations of the retail location, under the supervision of the Retail Store Manager and the Assistant Manager, including cost-effective processing and outstanding customer and community service. This can be an EXCELLENT PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY for a highly detail-oriented and resilient worker.

Primary Duties:

  • Believes in the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Mississippi.
  • Assists in processing donations (receipt, sorting, and handling).
  • Assists in pricing donated goods: sorting, preparing, and pricing items for sale using the production processing system (PPS).
  • Works daily with store manager, assistant manager and associates to ensure production and sales goals are met or exceeded so we can offer others a hand-up not a hand-out.
  • Works daily with store manager, assistant manager and associates to ensure maximum customer service.
  • Assists in maintaining the appearance of building interior, building exterior, and parking lot. Inside and outside...bathrooms to boardrooms.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly store processing area, good housekeeping, and work environment.
  • Assists in ensuring that safety procedures are understood and followed by all clients and employees and that CARF and OSHA Standards are maintained or exceeded.
  • Performs necessary record keeping and reporting of money, sales, and production in an accurate and timely manner. This includes, but not limited to, the correct operation and utilization of the Point-of-Sale (POS) equipment. All issues, problems or concerns with the POS system are reported immediately to the Director of Retail Sales.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager, the Shift Supervisor will supervise the staff and handle all managerial functions such as opening and closing the store properly, reporting accidents, incidents, or any occurrences that are serious in nature, keeping the safety of all clients and employees a priority.
  • Enforces and effectively communicates company policies and procedures to all employees. We continue to offer people a chance not charity.
  • Demonstrates a professional, presentable appearance, by adhering to Goodwill’s uniform policy, including the visible presence of an issued nametag.

Requirement(s):

High School Diploma/GED preferred with at least six months supervisory experience in retail, manufacturing, production, customer services or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certification(s):

  • Must successfully complete National Retail Federation (NRF) Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • If applicable, current Forklift Certification at certain locations utilizing forklifts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic judgment skills to determine merchandise/donation value.
  • Higher than average attention to detail to ensure accuracy in processes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally in person, by telephone and in writing.
  • Advanced math skills, including basic accounting and cash control procedures.
  • Desire to learn and grow through opportunities to thrive in life.

Additional Requirements:

  • Supports the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Mississippi, Inc.
  • Open availability to cover extra hours.
  • Ability to work from various Goodwill locations in our service area, as directed by management.
  • Maintains a valid driver license for state of residence with acceptable driving record.
  • Working knowledge of computers, including the Microsoft Office Suite with ability to utilize Microsoft Teams being a big plus.
  • Promotes and demonstrates ethical practices in all activities.
  • Promotes a safe work environment and follows all CARF requirements.
  • Ability to pass alcohol/drug screenings, criminal background check and insurance driving record check with a valid driver license from state of residence.

Physical Requirements:

  • Works in an environment with occasional high stress, with potentially short deadlines.
  • Stands and walks for most of the workday occasionally sits.
  • Routinely bends, stoops, pulls, pushes, reaches, kneels, twists, turns throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds in retail environment; 50 pounds in Donations areas.
  • Attended Donation Center / Aftermarket environment, or the ability to do so safely.

Travel:

Minimal travel required. May travel to other locations in service area to assist with management duties or training with notice. Some travel for meetings, conferences and/or trainings may be needed as you continue to learn and advance.
