Store Manager
Now hiring for our next Store Manager for our Portola location!
Come be a part of the significant growth we are seeing at our Portola store! In 2023 we saw a record 15.7% growth in sales, putting the Portola location at $1.39 Million in sales at year-end. This position oversees approximately 6-8 employees. The Grocery Manager and Store Manager work collaboratively to oversee the operations of the store.
We are looking for a dynamic leader that understands, supports and reinforces Feather River Food Co-op's mission to provide nutritious foods to our community, while supporting local agriculture. Some things we are looking for in our next leader include: experience leading teams, excellent communication skills, an understanding of organic/natural foods and a willingness to learn and grow.
The Store Manager is responsible for hiring, training and performance management for the front-end, produce and prepared foods staff. This position is also responsible for the entire store schedule to ensure proper coverage in collaboration with the Grocery Manager.

Description:
DAYS/HOURS: Sun 9:30-5:30 & Mon-Thurs 8:30-4:30; (Possibly Monday - Friday); Full-time 37.5 hours per week
PAY RATE LEVEL: FIVE (5) $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
REPORTS TO: General Manager
SUPPORTS: Front End Department
Leadership Responsibilities

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of, and ensure compliance with regulatory rules and standards relevant to the department.
  • Act as a model for all employees, abiding by all co-op policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Manual and other guidelines.
  • Demonstrate cooperation and professionalism, ensuring the integrity of Feather River Food Co-op's values, principles, and standards in decision making and interactions with others.
  • Ensure professional and friendly service is provided by Co-op employees.
  • Actively seek out and create educational and talent development opportunities to increase the skills and knowledge of all store employees.
  • Actively participate in the Feather River Food Co-op's management team and work together to achieve team goals and provide support to the General Manager.
  • Consistently attend the management team, department, and all staff meetings.
  • Follow procedures in the case of emergencies (such as fire, power outages, and evacuations), injuries and workplace violence, and non-emergency situations such as shoplifting and disruptive behavior.
  • Comply with the requirements of Feather River Food Co-op's Illness & Injury Prevention Program and address employee concerns and questions related to the IIPP.
  • Abide by dress code and all Co-op policies and procedures as specified in the Feather River Food Co-op's Employee Handbook.

Customer Service Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service as identified in Feather River Food Co-op Service Standards
  • Take the initiative to improve knowledge of Feather River Food Co-ops product line and demonstrate the ability to answer or research customer questions.
  • Promptly respond to customer inquiries, comments, and complaints in a professional manner, with General Manager assistance when needed.
  • Act as the manager on duty when assigned and promptly address issues affecting product quality, service or equipment malfunctions.
  • Understand the elements of Co-op membership sufficiently to educate customers and process membership transactions.
  • Understand and follow the procedures for processing special orders.
  • Help customers with special orders in a prompt, friendly manner.

Department Maintenance and Operations
  • Ensure day-to-day accuracy. consistency, and security of front-end operations which includes: cashiering, storewide stocking, customer service support.
  • Work with all employees who have MOD status to maintain the security of the front end, ensuring that the store is open and closed following security procedures.
  • Ensure proper functioning and prompt repairs to cash registers/POS systems.
  • Address shoplifters, disorderly customers, and other emergencies, following established procedures.
  • Ensure that adequate front-end supplies are stocked and up to date.
  • Ensure that store floors, tables, countertops, and seating areas are kept clean and orderly.
  • Ensure that sweeping, trash, snow removal and other upkeep is done as needed to maintain safety and an attractive appearance of the store exterior.
  • Manage all aspects of store operations effectively and efficiently based on goals, objectives and standards established by the General Manager.
  • Drive store conditioning excellence in compliance with merchandising standards.
  • Oversee compliance with all applicable laws: business licenses, permits, health regulations, organic standards, fire code, labor laws, etc.
  • Ensure smooth flow of store operations on a day-to-day basis.
  • Oversee the front-end operating budget at store location, ensuring all costs and expenses are in line with approved budget, notify General Manager of any discrepancies or issues.

Personnel
  • Develop, model and uphold performance standards and goal-setting for all department employees.
  • Assist Human Resources with recruitment and hiring of qualified employees.
  • Develop and/or maintain department Standard Operating Procedures and training documents.
  • Ensure training for all department employees and successful completion of training checklists with new department staff.
  • Schedule department employees to meet department and store needs within the labor budget and goals.
  • Collaborate with other managers to ensure overall operational staffing coverage and provide back-up emergency coverage when necessary.
  • Conduct thorough and thoughtful performance evaluations of department employees upon completion of trial periods and as needed.
  • Follow personnel procedures and good documentation practices. Take corrective action as needed for department employees according to established personnel policies.
  • Conduct quarterly staff and other meetings as necessary.
  • Emphasize interdepartmental communication and cooperation and facilitate employee engagement in department and storewide issues and opportunities.
  • Attend continual education classes, conferences, and other training as possible.

Financial Accountability
  • Work with the General Manager to review department goals and plan corrective action as needed.
  • Effectively manage allocated labor hours to ensure labor budget is maintained.
  • Communicate productivity, staffing or training issues, system improvement needs, and other relevant information to the GM in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Understand reports and financial terms used internally and in the larger co-op network.

Store, Security, and Safety
  • Assist the General Manager in ensuring regulatory and legal compliance of operations.
  • Ensure security of store property and personnel at all times.
  • Coordinate training on advanced equipment in all departments in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources that all managers and MOD's are aware of security, safety, and emergency procedures and are trained to handle emergencies.
  • Observe proper procedures for handling shoplifting, theft, robbery, and inappropriate behavior.
  • Avoid injury by observing safety precautions.
  • Follow the proper steps in the event of an injury or an emergency situation.

Other
  • Cashier as needed to support Front End.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Store Manager.
  • Demonstrate regular, predictable attendance.
  • Follow all health and safety protocol.
  • Work with the Store Manager to develop quarterly staff meetings.
  • Attend continual education classes, conferences, and other training as possible.
  • Utilize networking to learn from other co-op resources.

Scheduling Requirements
The scheduling availability described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. All employees must be available to work weekends, evenings, early mornings, holidays, and high demand seasons. Employees will be provided a recurring base schedule at the time of hire, this will be used to determine the employees employment benefit status.

Work Environment
  • Fast paced, physically-demanding work environment.
  • Occasional job related travel for training, meetings, and/or events.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts (i.e. store equipment, tools, etc.)
  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate to loud noises (i.e. equipment and machinery)
  • Crowded work spaces. Computer sharing is sometimes required.
  • Can involve work in high precarious places (i.e. ladders, ladder work.)
  • Ability to work in cold, wet conditions
