We are seeking a(an) Sterile Compounding Technician for our team to ensure that we continue to provide all patients with high quality, efficient care. Did you get into our industry for these reasons? Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Responsibilities:

· Assists in performance of daily pharmacy tasks (procurement, preparation, delivery, return, and restocking of medications)

· Participates in the formulary and inventory management process

· Compounds sterile products (including hazardous products) using aseptic technique

· Understands the regulations of USP 797 and USP 800 and ensures compounded products and the cleanroom suite comply with these regulations

· Trains new employees on sterile product compounding and cleanroom processes

· Facilitates customer service through communication with both internal and external customers

· Responsible and understands the use of automated pharmacy equipment and software

· Participates and assists with learning activities and other duties as assigned

Department Specific Criteria:

· Refills, delivers, and returns medication to and from Pyxis machines according to established policies and procedures.

· Refills, delivers, and restocks medications in various carts and kits (e.g. crash carts).

· Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.

· Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing of medications and supplies in appropriate locations (rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date). Assists with physical inventories.

· Prepares nonSterile Compounding according to policies and procedures.

· Performs assigned department based monitoring duties in a timely manner (i.e. unit inspections, temperature logs, IV room logs).

· Handles and delivers controlled substances in accordance with policies and procedures.

· Performs unit dose packaging of medications and documents pre-packing information appropriately.

· Charges medications to patient accounts in an accurate and timely manner.

· Completes and passes annual aseptic technique validation and associated competencies.

· Cleans IV hoods and documents cleaning of the clean room space per policy.

· Demonstrates proper aseptic technique and accurate preparation of sterile compounds (does not apply to Madison campus).

· Assists with the orientation of new employees(s) and/or orients current employee(s) to improve in a specific area.

· Fulfills technician job responsibility list for assigned shift, documents status of completion of tasks, and ensures appropriate daily hand off prior to leaving at the end of shift.

· Gives a thorough, concise report at change of shift, communicating incomplete assignments and potential patient concerns in order to provide continuity of care.

· Participates in departmental quality improvement processes by identifying problems and offering solutions.

· Participates in department or hospital committees, task forces, and/or provide departmental education.

· Maintains security of the pharmacy.

· Attends all staff meetings and/or huddles on scheduled work days. If scheduled off, is responsible for reading huddle communication.

· Attends all mandatory in-services as scheduled.

· Communicates with management to provide progress updates and re-prioritization activities as department needs change.

· Maintains current knowledge to assure a safe working environment, and demonstrates practical application of all policies and procedures relative to safety, infection control, and hazardous waste.

· Demonstrates capability of ordering medication through wholesaler or local distributor.

· Demonstrates ability to dose pack medication.

· Utilizes universal precautions in any potential contact with patient body fluids or used patient supplies that may be contaminated with patient body fluids, potentially harmful products, emissions, or any potentially injurious particles.

· Completes annual education requirements and TB test as scheduled.

· Maintains compliance with Human Resource requirements.

· Performs other assigned learning duties as assigned by manager.

· Maintains neat and clean working environment.

· Articulates knowledge and understanding of department and facility policies, procedures and systems.

· Demonstrates proficiency in basic mathematical calculations, balancing and reconciling figures, proper punctuation, and spelling and transcription.

· Demonstrates TriStar Skyline Medical Center’s iCARE values and acts in accordance with HCA’s Code of Conduct.

· Demonstrates pride in job performance by supporting the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the department as well as identified areas of personal and professional growth.

    · Demonstrates accountability for maintaining and improving own job knowledge, skills and competence.

    Qualifications:

    · High school/ GED required

    · Tennessee Board of Pharmacy License required

    · Current Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required

    · Certification for Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution within 90 days of start date required

    · 1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred

      · Basic computer skills required
