Job Description
The STEM Teacher at St. Louis University High serves the unique Catholic and Jesuit educational and formational mission of the school by designing and implementing educational curriculum in the area of STEM. In addition, they will engage in required supervisory, formational and co-curricular responsibilities, fulfilling school expectations for ongoing professional and spiritual development. This position reports to the Assistant Principal for Academics and the Director of STEM Education.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching 3 sections of STEM courses.
- Managing the maintenance and supply of STEM equipment and facilities, ensuring that the I-Lab remains a state-of-the-art facility for hands-on learning.
- Coordinating with STEM teachers to ensure the I-Lab facility supports the design and requirements of STEM courses.
- Assisting in the supervision of the I-Lab.
- Supporting the Director of STEM Education in providing vision and leadership for STEM curriculum development and the supervision and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Collaborating with the Director of STEM Education, subject matter experts and educators to design and implement a robust, engaging, and up-to-date STEM curriculum.
- Assisting the Director of STEM Education to ensure the curriculum aligns with current educational standards, preparing students for future academic and career success.
- Partners with the Director of STEM Education to create co-curricular engagement in STEM, such as organizing STEM-related events, competitions, and guest speakers to enhance community involvement.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to adapt approaches to instruction and engagement to the needs of particular students, and to design engaging lessons that use a variety of teaching methods Including: discussion, demonstration, individual or collaborative projects and research.
- Willingness to embrace and support the Catholic and Jesuit identity and mission of the school.
- Supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom and I-Lab.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Google Suite and other essential educational software.
- Ability to learn quickly and work collaboratively with others.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required in Science or Engineering; Master's degree highly preferred.
- High school teaching experience required.
- Prior experience teaching STEM project based classes.
- Exposure to and knowledge of Catholic and Jesuit educational philosophy preferred.
