Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We inspire guests of all ages to connect with the significance of space exploration as incredible feats of human spaceflight continue to bring joy and wonder to the world. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate.

We are seeking a full-time STEM Pathway Specialist responsible for developing and implementing mission-based, innovative STEM education curriculum, programs, and initiatives for Space Center Houston. Responsibilities and qualifications are shown below. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Develop and implement informal, innovative, and engaging mission-based curriculum, programs and initiatives for diverse audiences tied to space exploration and standards across programs to ensure alignment with strategic goals.  
  • Develop content and program activities as well as all aspects of administration of assigned education programs including, but not limited to, Girls STEM Pathway. 
  • Maintain quality assurance of education program curriculum with the goal of enhancing engagement alignment with standards and current NASA missions. Ensure approved curriculum is presented in a professional and effective manner.  
  • Administrative responsibilities include staff supervision and training, support budgeting and program evaluation. Develop agendas and timelines for programs. 
  • Develop training schedules, instructor schedules, program checklists, supply purchase orders and maintain supply inventory for the appropriate programs.  
  • Work collaboratively with SCH staff, NASA personnel, civilian contractors, school districts, and community organizations to offer educational programs as needed.  
  • Implement department approved processes to measure effectiveness, success, and guest satisfaction of programs.  
  • Ensure a safe environment for Education crew members and guests attending programs.  
  • Work with the Development and Communications departments to provide timely and complete information needed to market and promote education programs.  
  • Provide data as requested to support grant funded programs. 
  • Work as a team member to host large educational group events.  
  • Other responsibilities needed to help support Education programs, public programs and other Space Center Houston activities as assigned.  
  • Work closely with the Education Managers, Directors and V.P. of Education for strategic and content planning.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 
 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related STEM field required.
  • Teaching Certificate and Master's degree preferred.  
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching and developing innovative STEM education programs and/or curriculum.
  • Middle/high school experience preferred.  
  • Multi-lingual preferred. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of formal and informal program evaluation systems.  
  • Strong knowledge of NASA missions, math, and science fundamentals are preferred. 
  • Knowledge of NASA education objectives and priorities preferred. 
  • A passion for space exploration.  
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and listening skills with the ability to present pre-approved curriculum effectively and provide exceptional customer service.  
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading ability.  
  • Computer literacy with highly advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS and PowerPoint.  
  • Experience teaching underserved underrepresented students in STEM preferred. 
  • Ability to work well with all levels of the organization. 
  • The ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating social skills, confidentiality, sensitivity, and professionalism.  
  • Must have the ability to interact with clients in a professional manner.  
  • Must be physically able to lift and restock supplies.  
  • Must be reliable and able to work with limited supervision.  
  • A creative team player with a willingness to work hard and a commitment to educational quality.
  • Work schedule will include some evenings and weekends. Ability to travel as needed. 

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 (commensurate with experience)
