Job Title: Steel TubularsLaboratory Operator
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Steel Tubular Laboratory Operator with a minimum of 2-3 years experience in a process-related role and strong knowledge of the steel industry. The ideal candidate will have experience in steel manufacturing or testing environments, with a focus on ensuring the quality and integrity of Steel Tubular products through laboratory testing and analysis. A metallurgical educational background is preferred with an Industrial or Mechanical background. This position reports directly to the Assistant Plant Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Testing and Analysis:
- Conduct various tests on Steel Tubular products using specialized equipment and tools such as a Universal Testing Machine, Impact Tester, Rockwell Hardness Tester, and Mounting Press.
· Skill in operating a Belt Grinder
Knowledge of Metal Flow (Microscope) operations
- Perform dimensional, mechanical, and chemical testing to ensure products meet quality standards and specifications.
- Analyze test results and accurately record data.
- Quality Control:
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures for Steel Tubular products.
- Inspect incoming raw materials and finished products to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Identify and report any deviations from quality standards.
- Calibration and Maintenance:
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy in testing.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on testing equipment and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of testing procedures, results, quality control measures, data, and samples.
- Prepare and submit reports summarizing test findings.
5. Collaboration:
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding testing procedures and results.
- Initiating requests for sample fabrication directly to the Assistant Plant Manager.
Qualifications:
- BSE/Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field or years of experience in lieu of education.
- Proven experience in a laboratory or quality control role within the steel industry.
- Knowledge of steel manufacturing processes and standards.
- Familiarity with testing equipment and procedures related to Steel Tubular products.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Skills:
- Proficient in using laboratory equipment and tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities both verbal and written (MS Excel & Outlook)
- Knowledge of relevant safety protocols and procedures.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs safely and on a regular basis
- Able to read and interpret ASTM and customer specifications & compliancy documents.
