Job Title:
STEAM Teacher
Reports To: Lead Principal
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The STEAM teacher teaches STEAM methodology and promotes discovery, exploration, and problem-solving through Project Based Learning. We are also deeply committed to using Arts Integration strategies to differentiate instruction as well as promote the value and importance of all of the Arts in our STEAM curriculum. As educators in our school, it is our main goal for students to be equipped with the concepts and 21st-century skills needed to meet the challenges of the future. Most importantly, teachers at MCS believe in the highest potential for every single one of our students and we do whatever it takes to be successful. The STEAM teacher accepts all of the responsibilities as prescribed by the Education Laws of the State of Mississippi, laws and regulations of the United States, statutes of the State of Mississippi, and the policies, rules, and regulations established by the MCS Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Arts and/or
  • Master's Degree in Education, Math, Science, or the Arts (preferred)
  • Mississippi Teacher Certification

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, prepare and deliver STEAM instruction using research-based best practices,
  • Use relevant technology effectively to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage and maintain student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing school-wide disciplinary systems and procedures
  • Maintain and monitor accurate and complete records of student's progress and development physically, academically, and socially and provide appropriate interventions when necessary
  • Participate in department, school, IEP and parent meetings
  • Abide by Hawking Teacher Commitments
  • Attend a minimum of two community events per year
  • Plan two Field Work and 1 Field Trip opportunities for your class each year.
  • Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Communicate necessary information regularly and effectively to students, colleagues, and parents
  • Prepare classroom for class activities and maintain a clean and organized classroom throughout the day
  • Maintain high academic standards and expectations while simultaneously supporting and encouraging emotional grit
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain compliance with all organization's policies and procedures
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Principal
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk to or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and use hand dexterity for computer work and keyboarding skills at a minimum of 45 words per minute, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods. The employee must lift and move up to 10 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required by this job included close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40-hour work week when workload requires.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee will work beyond an eight-hour day and a five-day week to take care of daily work and attend meetings, conferences, and district/school activities. The employee must have excellent communication, problem-solving, and small-group process skills. A substantial portion of the work will involve conflict management and sensitive situations with staff, parents, and patrons. Confidentiality is crucial. Workloads are heavy and timelines can be unreasonably short. Requests and issues are often received which require immediate attention and conflict with other priorities.
