Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Stations Design Leader to join our Planning, Engineering, and Construction team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Stations Design Leader do for us?

This Stations Design Leader position is responsible for leading the Structural Design Team, determining capital project assignments, identifying scheduling priorities, and providing quality control for construction issue drawing sets. The Design Leader contributes directly to the development, maintenance, and application of Station Standards, Construction Specifications, and design practices. The Design Leader also provides technical guidance, sets professional development goals, evaluates performance, represents the Structural Design team to key project stakeholders, and coaches the team for success, as well as other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Knowledge of:

  • Electrical substation physical and structural design principles

  • Foundation design, structural analysis and detailing, and surveying practices

  • Modern methods, materials, and equipment used in station construction

  • Operating principles of AC and DC electrical power station equipment and communication systems

  • Idaho Power Stations Engineering Manual, Materials Manual, and Construction Specifications

  • Idaho Power safety program and the hazards associated with electrical power station work

  • Idaho Power budgeting, financial, and property accounting systems

Skills in:

  • Team leadership, problem solving, and interpersonal communication

  • Coaching and aligning performance for success

  • AutoCAD, PDF Editing Software, Asset Suite, Meridian, Sharepoint, and Microsoft Office

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate effective leadership while managing multiple projects

  • Provide regular feedback and coaching to develop a high performing team

  • Read, understand, and provide technical guidance on station construction documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of problems, alternatives, and recommended solutions

  • Foster strong working relationships and resolve conflicts

  • Work independently and drive initiatives

  • Understand and champion company safety programs, as well as state and federal safety regulations, which include OSHA, NEC, NESC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, and chemical safety codes

  • Perform normal physical activities associated with engineering office and construction support work

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Control Systems Technology, or equivalent education and experience

Preferred:

  • BS degree in Engineering

Experience:

5 years of recent experience in design and/or construction in an electrical power industry

Preferred:

  • 10 years of recent design and construction experience in electrical power stations

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
