Keeping Washington Clean and EvergreenThe Solid Waste Management (SWM) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a Statewide Lead Local Planner (Environmental Planner 4) position. This position can be located in any of the regions below.Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA.Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA.Central Region Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA.Eastern Region Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA.Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.Please Note: If the final location of this position is determined to be in our Northwest Region Office (NWRO) in Shoreline, WA. there will be an additional 5% pay increase due to its location in King County. In this instance the salary range will be $6,195 - $8,328 per month. In this role, you will work with solid waste planners across the state, both internally and externally. If you love helping dedicated professionals reach consensus on common goals around solid waste management, this could be the job for you! In this position you’ll coordinate and facilitate work-groups tasked with planning and implementation of statewide guidance of solid waste planning. You’ll get to coordinate solid waste contracting, data, communication, guidelines development, and supporting your fellow Ecology coworkers.Agency Mission: Ecology's mission is to protect, preserve and enhance the environment for current and future generations. Program Mission: The mission of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) program is to reduce wastes through prevention and reuse, keep toxics out of the environment, and safely manage what remains.Tele-work options for this position: This position will be eligible for up to a 80% tele-work schedule. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
What makes this role unique? Externally, this role works with solid waste managers across the state to standardize planning guidance and coordinate information. Different local governments across the state have different challenges and opportunities to manage solid waste effectively. In this role, your goal will be to support a team of Ecology regional planners that work directly with these local governments, as well as work with local governments directly, to help them further shared goals across the state within the bounds of RCW 70A.205 and other applicable state and local laws.What you will do: Responsible for establishing standards to verify the local solid waste planning aspects of chapter 70A.205 RCW and RCW 70A.300.350. are being met statewide. Leads local hazardous and local solid waste management planning guidelines development.Provides technical assistance to regional planners – assist in regulation, rule, and policy interpretation and implementation.Communicates with local planning jurisdictions to assure appropriate consistency with statewide planning goals and directives, and brings local government interests, concerns and perspectives to statewide issue discussions and processes.Provides training and technical assistance to local solid waste management planners, including “rollout” process and training as needed to counties for new Planning Guidelines.Facilitates and develops the agenda for Planning job-alike group conference calls and external planning meetings.
