Starter-maker Relief

1st Shift Starter-maker Relief

Wage: $24.49 when in Production. $27.43 when performing the Starter-maker and Sunday premiums.

Location city, state: Kiel, Wisconsin

Hours: 6am-2pm (Start and End times may vary based on production needs)

Overtime: Eligible for overtime after 8 hours

Schedule: 10 days on & 4 days off. Every other weekend off (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday)

$2500 Sign On Bonus

You will receive a sign-on bonus of $500.00 after 60 days of employment. After six months of employment, you will receive a $1,000.00 retention bonus, and after one year of employment you'll receive your second payment of your retention bonus of $1,000.00. All totaled you will receive $2,500.00 in sign-on and retention bonuses.

This role will work in the Production department as well as in the Starter-maker department.

Starter-maker duties: Prepare starter culture for Kiel’s daily cheese production. Review the upcoming cheese production schedule and calculate the amount of starter required to meet production needs. Set up the Work Order for daily starter production in Catalyst E-1. Clean and sanitize all equipment used for starter preparation and manufacture. Reconstitute starter media according to manufacturer’s recommendations, sterilize the media and fill the selected starter fermentation tank, set the prepared media with the appropriate cultures. Complete and maintain all documentation of sanitation and production records. Responsible for maintaining culture inventory, communicating cultures that need to be ordered to the Stock Room Clerk, and for verifying the cultures received vs the bill of lading when they arrive.

EDUCATON:

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 6 plus months of solid work experience in any industry
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to follow manufacturer's specifications and direction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must attend a Wisconsin Pasteurizer’s Operators Training course, take and pass the exam for the Wisconsin pasteurizer’s Operator’s License within 6 months of accepting the position.
  • Must be able to do mathematical calculations.
  • Must be able to work with the automated controls for the Starter Making equipment.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and be able to understand how the process and equipment are supposed to operate and be able to communicate what is not working correctly to management and maintenance.
  • Adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Self-reliant and able to accurately work under limited supervision.
  • Ensures a safe working environment while performing assigned tasks.
  • Customer focused and able to work in a collaborative team.
  • Ability to be flexible in work performed and schedule.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 55 lbs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience communicating with supervisors and co-workers in a team environment.
  • Previous experience in a cheese making facility.
  • Knowledge of various pieces of high- tech manufacturing processing and packaging equipment.

Physical Requirements for production positions regularly include:

  • Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements.
  • Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Working across temperature zones that may include cold and/or hot environments for extended periods and may include work in environments where dust is present.
  • Shift schedules that include days, nights, and weekends, some holidays and periodic overtime.
