Specializing in the production of electric vehicle propulsion systems, Cascadia Motion designs and manufactures a range of solutions including inverters, motors, gearboxes, and supporting equipment. The company owns the project from conceptual design through in-house manufacturing to after-sales support. While predominantly engaged in low to mid-volume production, there is a strategic volume graduation pathway into other manufacturing plants within BorgWarner's expansive footprint. JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
  • This position is responsible for the Mechanical Design and support of Cascadia Motion products including inverters, motors, and gearing.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Mechanical design of inverters, motors and/or gearing used in electric propulsion systems
  • Design, release, and support products from design specification to production release and support
  • Create complex 3D CAD models using SolidWorks
  • Create 2D drafting/GD&T using SolidWorks
  • Develop FEA/CFD models to ensure product optimization and durability
  • Contribute to peer-level and executive-level design reviews
  • Develop test plans to ensure product performance and durability
  • Design test hardware
  • Create and update BOMs to support production of Cascadia Motion products
  • Create ECO documentation to support the release and revision of Mechanical Designs
  • Work with suppliers to ensure the manufacturability of mechanical parts
  • Work with Operations and Quality departments to resolve production challenges

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work productively with limited supervision
  • Strong engineering intuition with the ability to work with limited information to quickly solve problems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (English) with the ability to conduct design reviews
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD with 5+ years on the job experience
  • Proficiency in 2D Drafting with 5+ years on the job experience
  • General understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • General understanding of design for manufacture of sheet metal, CNC, injection mold, and cast parts

PREFFERED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years 3D CAD design experience in SolidWorks
  • 5+ years 2D CAD drafting experience in SolidWorks
  • Ability to develop blank sheet GD&T schemes for complex parts per ASME Y14.5
  • Experience constructing assembly level FEA simulations to analyze stresses, strains, bolted joint connections, contact interactions, and fatigue life. Ansys Structural and SolidWorks Simulation preferred
  • Experience constructing assembly level CFD simulations to analyze pressure drop, thermal characteristics, and electronics cooling. Ansys Fluent and SolidWorks Flow Simulation preferred
  • Experience in the design and release of sheet metal, CNC, injection mold, and cast metal parts
  • Experience in the Mechanical Design related to power electronics, specifically inverters and motors
  • Experience in the Mechanical Design related to gearing including the design and specification of gears and splines
