Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-5 unless otherwise needed.

Job Status: Full-Time

Amount of Travel: 10-25%


Position Summary

Pioneer Technical Services is seeking a Staff Level Water Resource Engineer to be based out of our Bozeman, MT office. This position will support various projects throughout the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Northwest regions, on projects such as: stream and river restoration, hydrologic, hydraulic, sediment, and geomorphic analyses, stormwater treatment/management, flood mapping and hazard mitigation, and aquatic structure design. The Water Resource Engineer will perform the following duties, depending on experience:

  • Collect and analyze data, perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, sediment transport and ripap sizing analysis, and prepare calculation briefs, technical memorandums and reports.
  • Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and geomorphic modelling, utilizing Water Resource software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SRH 2D, Flo-2D, FlowMaster, XP-SWMM, etc.
  • Prepare and review design drawings and specifications, design and permitting reports, floodplain and watershed studies, and cost and schedule estimates.
  • Interact with designated team leader to report on progress, recognize problem issues and communicate impacts, collaborate with design team to solve technical problems, resolve process related issues and build efficiency.

Skills & Abilities

Experience: Previous experience in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on Water Resource related analysis and design is preferred but not required.

Education: Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering with course work in Water Resources is required. Master's degree is preferred but not required.

Computer Skills: Must be familiar with Microsoft Office products. Experience with USGS StreamStats, HEC-RAS, GeoHECRAS, Civil3D, and ArcGIS Pro is preferred but not required.

Other Requirements: The ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team when solving complex, technical problems is essential. The job requires strong written skills, interpersonal skills, as well as flexibility and enthusiasm in performing a variety of tasks.
