This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center - Cole Engineering Center Podium at least three times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.

We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate to join our team in our journey of defining and executing the backbone of our company's future—the next generation Vehicle Electrical Architecture. The Mechatronics Infrastructure Value Stream is looking for a System Engineer that will lead the development of CAN and LIN Architectures utilized by all GM’s platforms. 
As a Staff System Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and coaching the team in developing the most efficient and optimal CAN and LIN architectures by aligning strategies, stakeholders, designs, and delivering a product that exceeds our customers' expectations.

  • Champion enterprise CAN and LIN communications strategies and roadmaps.
  • Design and develop CAN and LIN systems, including network architecture, topology, and communication protocols across all networking layers.
  • Lead development of configuration and optimization of CAN and LIN networks and security settings.
  • Lead testing and validation initiatives to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Support hardware teams on the selection of CAN and LIN hardware components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of CAN and LIN systems into the overall vehicle architecture.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, network diagrams, test plans, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide people leadership and technical mentoring to other team members and promote a team environment that values the backgrounds, opinions, and ideas of everyone.
  • Lead team to continuously improve processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry standards, protocols, and trends related to CAN and LIN systems. Incorporate best practices and emerging technologies into system design and development.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or related experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience planning, designing, and implementing complex automotive networks.
  • Expert level knowledge of network architecture and communication standards.
  • Experience with network simulation and analysis tools, programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python), and software development for embedded systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with network automation.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle and testing methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts at a basic level.
  • Excellent teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with peers, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders.
  • Experience with cross-functional leadership across product and program teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs, and solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to ideate, formulate and execute winning technical strategies and innovations.
  • Evidence of mentoring and developing others into technical experts.
  • Evidence of data-based decision making.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or related experience.
  • Engineering and Embedded Software Systems, with a focus on in-vehicle networking, CAN systems, and LIN systems.
  • Ten or more years of experience working with Electrical architectures.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR software concepts and implementation

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington

  • Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is : $116,100 - $181,600 Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
