About the Position
Foursquare is looking for a Staff Engineer - Front End to join our team! While we would prefer candidates based in or around our office hubs in New York City, Chicago, Seattle, or San Francisco, we're also open to considering remote applicants for this role.
The successful candidate will join the Foursquare Studio team. The Studio team set out to bring the most advanced geospatial technologies to the world that are powerful and easy to use. The team is building an analytics platform for accessing, enriching, analyzing, and visualizing geospatial data. We serve a variety of different customers and use cases from in-depth reporting to advanced geospatial visualization.
The Staff Front End Engineer will serve an important role in building world-class data visualization and analytics experiences for Foursquare Studio - a client-side application for geospatial visualization and analytics. You will be responsible for implementing UI/UX design using Typescript and Javascript, focusing not only on performance and quality but also on crafting a beautiful user experience. You will be able to demonstrate initiative, professionalism and attention to detail. You will have experience in improving the internal developer experience of the team through a deep understanding of popular build tooling and systems.
In this role, you’ll
- Build world-class data visualization and analytics experiences for Foursquare Studio
- Develop elegant, responsive, and high-performant user interfaces using the latest Front-End technologies
- Work closely with the Front-End lead, product, UX/UI design, and backend to understand customer needs and translate them into product features, bridging the gap between UI design and product implementation
- Act as a force multiplier, supporting and mentoring junior engineers, conducting code reviews, and coordinating cross-team efforts
- Maintain and improve existing code with a pride of ownership. Implement and advocate for best practices in testing, code quality, and CI/CD pipelines
- Shape broad architecture decisions, and participate in planning and Product decisions
What you’ll need
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field
- A minimum of 7 years experience in software engineering, building frontend applications
- Proficiency in front-end programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Typescript
- Well-versed in front-end technologies including React, Redux, React Hooks, Tailwind CSS, Esbuild, and NextJS
- Excellent knowledge of browser troubleshooting and debugging practices and techniques
- Experience with developing data-rich applications and techniques for high performant great UI architecture and engineering
- Experience with CI/CD tools and practices

At Foursquare, we are committed to providing competitive pay and benefits that are in line with industry and market standards. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, and specific office location.
The annual total cash compensation range is $148,000 - $242,250, howeveractual salaries can vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills and competencies, as well as location.
Salary is just one component of Foursquare’s total compensation package, which includes restricted stock units, multiple health insurance options, and a wide range of benefits!
