Job Summary
Use broad knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control, and estimation theory to solve complex aerospace engineering problems. Contribute to development of new knowledge, concepts, products, and innovative solutions. Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate technical assignments for aerospace engineering activities. Plan, organize and supervise the work of a team of engineers and technicians. Evaluate progress and results obtained. Recommend major changes to achieve objectives.
Job Responsibilities

  • Flow down top-level requirement to Missile Guidance, Navigation, Flight Control, and Target Tracking algorithm design. Plan and execute these algorithms' design, development, test, and evaluation.
  • Design and develop 6+ degrees of freedom (DOF) high-fidelity non-linear dynamics modeling and simulation (M&S) for flight vehicles.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in the selection of navigation sensors, targeting sensors, propulsion systems, and control actuation systems - based on top-level requirement flow-down and 6+ DOF M&S results.
  • Attend and present at various engineering design reviews, test readiness reviews, and flight readiness reviews.
  • Participate in HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) tests, ground tests, captive carry flight tests, and live fire tests. Analyze data collected from these tests. Evaluate the test results versus system performance requirements.

Required Education and Experience
  • BS in Aerospace Engineering & 14 years of relevant experience; or MS in Aerospace Engineering& 12 years of relevant experience; or PhD in Aerospace Engineering & 9 years of relevant experience
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance
  • Demonstrate capability in the following areas:
    • Design Missile Guidance and Autopilot algorithm: guidance law, trajectory optimization, flight control
    • Design Navigation algorithm: initial alignment, strapdown propagation, INS filter, multiple navigation sensor data fusion
    • Design Target Tracking algorithm: angle only tracking, maneuvering target tracking, multi-target tracking, track file manager, multiple targeting sensors data fusion
    • Define vehicle dynamics modeling in multiple degrees of freedom simulation architecture
    • Define navigation sensor and targeting sensor modeling based on hardware specification and test results; Define target dynamics modeling; Support high fidelity flight vehicle non-linear dynamics modeling and simulation development effort.
    • Verify system performance from HIL tests, ground tests, captive carry flight tests, and live fire tests.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • MS or PhD in Aerospace Engineering
  • Active DOD Top Secret Clearance/SAP
  • Experience in tactical missile design, and flight tests
  • Working knowledge of multi-discipline analysis and optimization
  • Understanding of Embedded Flight Software development process

Salary Range: $161,000.00 - $241,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
