About the Job:
As Staff Database Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, integrity, and security of our databases that meet the technological needs of our organization. Working closely with cross-functional teams, this role requires a strategic mindset, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to managing and optimizing our database systems.
About the Role:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Design, implement, and maintain high-performance database systems that align with business objectives and technical constraints.
- Ensure the integrity, availability, and security of databases through regular monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database queries and ensure efficient data access.
- Implement and enforce security best practices to safeguard sensitive data.
- Stay current on industry regulations and standards, ensuring compliance with data protection and privacy laws.
- Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies to minimize data loss and downtime.
- Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery procedures to validate system reliability.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks, working proactively to optimize database systems.
- Analyze and interpret performance metrics to make recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing technical expertise and support.
- Mentor other members of the DBA team.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to database design and configuration, manuals, technical guides, and operational procedures.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field- 12+ years of related experience, master’s degree and 8+ years of related experience, or equivalent related work experience.
- Proven experience with a wide variety of relational and NoSQL database technologies (MySQL, Galera, TiDB, Vertica, Cassandra).
- Experience with cloud-based database platforms (RDS, Aurora, Keyspaces, CloudSQL, BigTable).
- Experience with automation tools like Ansible and Puppet.
- Proficiency in database design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of database security principles.
- Solid knowledge of backup and recovery processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
