Burns & McDonnell's office in Austin, TX, is seeking a Staff Compliance scientist to join its team of talented and successful environmental professionals to perform environmental permitting and compliance work on a variety of consulting projects. This person will perform stormwater compliance and environmental inspections for construction projects, multi-media environmental compliance audits; environmental site assessments; mitigation measure implementation; permit application development; and write and edit plans for various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.
- Prepare summaries of regulations and determines the applicability to a client’s operations.
- Perform site audits, incident investigations and audits in support of other company and client initiatives.
- Participate in environmental site assessments.
- Complete permit application forms for water and waste permits.
- Conduct groundwater and surface water sampling events in support of regulatory projects.
- Conduct environmental compliance audits, prepare permitting applications, and analyze environmental data for various types of projects, including renewable projects, high-voltage transmission line routing, oil and gas facilities, petrochemical manufacturing plants, power generation construction activities and water treatment facilities.
- Environmental compliance audits; stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) preparation and Best Management Practices (BMP) inspections, environmental site assessments; including report and permit writing.
- Work includes a mix of field assessments, report/permit preparation and travel.
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field from an accredited program.
- A minimum of 4 years of environmental compliance experience required.
- Previous consulting experience, including site assessment experience, such as Phase I, Phase II, and/or remediation is preferred.
- Knowledge of environmental regulatory programs such as Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office are required.
- Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
