GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Instructional Technologist provides expert guidance in the application and use of Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s technologies to support teaching and learning. This position also provides consulting, training, and support in the use of existing and emerging technologies to staff and faculty to increase digital literacy.

General responsibilities:

  • Advance the usage and best practices of the Academy’s Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Administer and support the Blackboard LMS to ensure it functions at an optimal level. Oversee the creation and implementation of integrations to/from Blackboard.
  • Work with faculty to design, develop and revise course materials for undergraduate and graduate courses in face-to-face, online and hybrid modes.
  • Partner with faculty to evaluate, select and implement new learning technologies and digital content in the curriculum.
  • Utilize academic technology to support and further Academic Affairs initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver individual, group and online training workshops for faculty and staff.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and basic training of commonly used Academy technologies.
  • Create and publish documentation for supported instructional technology tools and software.
  • Lead successful projects of varying scope and size, ensuring on-time and on-budget completion.
  • Keep current with developments in the areas of instructional technology and design.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience providing instructional design and support, preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Experience supporting and administering at least one Learning Management System (LMS) used in higher education (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, Desire2Learn).
  • Working knowledge of instructional design principles.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical strategies and practices in multiple learning environments, such as traditional, online, blended, or hybrid.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in facilitation of in-person or remote workshops.
  • Ability to work independently and/or with multiple stakeholders.
  • Must possess a customer-service driven and team-oriented approach.
  • Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Five or more year’s relevant experience providing instructional design and support.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development and/or the modeling of inclusive behaviors.
  • Experience as a Blackboard LMS systems administrator.
  • Familiarity with instructional tools, such as lecture capture, exam proctoring, audience response, and video streaming.
  • Understanding of managed hosting environments and experience working with managed hosting service providers.
  • Knowledge of LTI specifications and application integration.
  • Knowledge of Panopto Lecture Capture or Zoom Video Conferencing.

Salary:$73,000 to $75,000 The Academy offers generous benefits policies and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is exempt under the FLSA.
