Staff Accountant

Far West Industries seeks an entry level Staff Accountant. Far West Industries is a homebuilder, lender and investor located in Orange County.  We have been in business for over 40 years. Our company is currently experiencing growth and we are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our accounting and finance team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for accounts payable (75% of the job duties), daily bookkeeping and assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements and analysis reports. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for accounting issues.

Functions include but not limited to:

• AP/AR (billing)
• Prepare and process journal entries
• Maintain books and records of multiple companies
• Bank reconciliations
• Prepare monthly financial statements
• Provide value-added monthly variance analysis of the company financials to assist in the decision-making process
• Record loan disbursements and payments
• Prepare Sales Tax reports and projections
• Prepare supporting documents for the external audit
• Assist in developing policies and procedures and ensure adherence to guidelines
• Maintain and restructure, as needed, the master chart of accounts for all entities and ensure the integrity of the date structure
• Ad-hoc projects as directed by Controller/CFO

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field are required
• Prior experience with bookkeeping and understanding of GAAP accounting preferred
• Prior audit experience with a CPA firm is a plus
• Proficient in Word and Excel, QuickBooks, Newstar (construction software) experience helpful
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Proven analytical skills and ability to recognize unusual trends
• Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
• Strong sense of accuracy, attention to detail and organization
