We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Staff Accountant l on our Finance team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.
As a Staff Accountant l, you will process AMA Membershippayments via Direct Cash Receipts, Lockbox, Web, Federation, County MedicalSociety, Group, and Super-Bills; process Medical Student Outreach Program(MSOP) files. This role will analyze records, open balances on account daily,conduct monthly reconciliations, as well as refunds and overpayments. Correspondwith members and manage data according to AMA policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Cash Receipts, Lockbox, USC & E-Commerce open/in error batches
- Post membership payments received through lockbox; combine with website renewals, cash receipts, wire transfers, cash transfers, and direct mail
- Research, resolve and post lockbox exceptions and open/in error batches daily
- Follow up on correction of product codes, partial pay, overpay errors, and other system\vendor errors
- Manage mail correspondence regarding members' accounts, including unidentifiable checks; respond to telephone calls and emails received from physicians
- Generate reports for cash receipts, product codes, etc.
Exception Processing and Check Processing
- Daily research and process checks received in Exela (BancTec) EP exception processing
- Coordinate payments received through BancTec and apply to A/R system; provide the supporting documents for A/R posting
- Communicate to the Cash Room/Treasury department any non-membership-related payments received through BancTec that must be transferred out
MSOP Student Commissions/Outreach Program
- Monitor the MSOP student email proxy box and respond to inquiries; process MSOP student membership payments
- Correct MSOP cash receipts exception and errors that flow from the MSOP website to AIMS
- Provide customer service to State/County Medical Societies, student recruiters, internal and external staff
- Review daily MSOP reports, correct duplicate records and non-medical students in the AMA database
Other Accounting Membership Functions
- Process nonstandard payments including partial and overpayments, credit card postings, eFunds AP Export process; run overpayment reports, Gratis Resident Membership and Financial Hardship request
- Research and post-NSFs, NIFs, and credit card batch jobs
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or relevant accounting experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years experience processing payment transactions in a high-volume setting while providing customer service is required; 1-2 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience combined with collections experience preferred
- Highly proficient with Microsoft office suite including Excel, Word, and Access as well as Exposure to financial software packages a plus
- Current knowledge of accounting literature and industry or public accounting experience
- Strong planning and organizing skills required, must meet commitments and deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues and to learn new software applications
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management
