POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Staff Accountant is responsible for over-all daily accounting operations and assists the Vice President of Finance with month end financial statement preparation, annual budget, and annual audit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee accounting operations including cash receipts from Salesforce and the caging vendor.
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of Daily Cash Report.
- Process journal entries for all cash receipts.
- Prepare and record monthly journal entries to the general ledger and associated reconciliations for assigned accounts.
- Maintain and ensure that the fixed asset list is kept up to date.
- Perform duties associated with monthly closing for preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Follow up on delinquent accounts and be instrumental in changing the process from a manual to an automated database.
- Field requests for information regarding department reports from respective department heads as well as requests from other individuals in the organization.
- Provides operations support to the department as required or requested.
- Provide assistance and support for the accounts payable function in Bill.com and for travel expenditures and reimbursements in Bill Spend and Expense.
- Provide support in the budget process with Planning Maestro.
- Provide support in the general ledger utilizing Sage Intacct.
- Convey a professional and positive image that reflects favorably on The ALS Association.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit work environment.
- Strong analytical and computer skills with knowledge of Salesforce and Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of financial reporting including financial statements and budget.
- Understands business implications of actions.
- Ability to work on a team, exhibit objectivity and openness to other’s views, and support everyone’s efforts to succeed.

Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.
