Management/Supervisory Scope: The Staff Accountant works under the direction of the Controller and day to day supervision of the Accounting Manager.
Basic Function: The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing payroll (ADPWorkforceNow), financial giving records and company assets. Payroll management includes processing payroll and maintaining the employee database regarding salary and pay, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. Financial record management includes, ensuring accurate and timely day to day data entry and reporting. Company asset management includes accurate accounting of inventory of company assets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing 30% - Essential
Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors. Establishes and maintains communication schedule for payroll data collection.
Reconciles payroll sub-ledger to the general ledger. Perform monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll reports. Provide support to employees and managers regarding payroll inquiries. Interfaces with department timekeepers, employees and outside vendor to resolve payment problems or other special situations.
Financial Giving Record Management 30% - Essential
Receives and records tithes and offerings, copies, collates and distributes reports, as necessary, as well as any other special projects.
Creates and updates databases and maintains all files and other records of giving envelops and general ledger reports.
Fiscal Asset Management 20% - Essential
Plans, implements and manages procedures to optimize inventory control. Develops and maintains inventory records and ensures all inventory is accounted for and reported according to company policy.
Investigates and resolves inconsistencies with inventory. Interfaces with department managers and employees to review/handle problems or other special situations.
Department Support 10% - Essential
Assists Accounting personnel with the preparation of monthly/quarterly reports to membership partners, Board of Directors, and Management team members. Responsible for copying, collating, and distributing reports, as necessary, as well as any other special projects.
Performs Other Duties as Assigned - 5% - Non-Essential
Requirements: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or 1 to 3 years equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of accounting, payroll (ADPWorkforceNow), budgeting, forecasting and long and short-term financial planning; financial analysis and management skills, knowledge of computer software and its application to financial business practice; ability to problem solve, organize and direct the work of professional, technical and clerical staffs; outstanding interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal), self-starter requiring minimum supervision; ability to work individually or with team. Persistency, accuracy, creativity, courtesy, and honesty are required. Also must possess great attention to details, excellent organizational skills, and excellent time management skills.
Work Schedule: The Staff Accountant shall general work forty (40) hours each week in accordance with the schedule personally arranged, and mutually agreed to with the Controller and or his/her designee. Attendance at Team and Church meetings and the carrying out of duties and responsibilities in excess of 40 hours is part of, and inherent in this job.
