Who we are seeking:

We are looking for a Staff Accountant who will provide accounting and regulatory support for various programs.

  • You have experience managing accounting and reporting for notes receivable and notes payable transactions
  • You are a skilled accountant with an understanding of general ledger reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and the monthly close process.
  • You bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and approaches to the team and enjoy the opportunity to work with people to seek best practices in your work.
  • You have great technical accounting skills and share your technical knowledge with the team.
  • You are a team player and a collaborator able to be an active team member and seamlessly back up your fellow senior accountants.
  • You possess great organizational skills and process information, solve problems, and communicate effectively to the team.
  • You have a passion for contributing to the purpose of lifting communities.

Some of your key responsibilities in this role will be:

  • You will manage accounting and reporting for notes receivable transactions, including reconciling the general ledger to the lending software monthly, and resolving discrepancies between the two.
  • You will manage accounting and reporting for CEI borrowing activity including proper recording and classification of obligations.
  • You will provide internal and external reporting and analysis for various departments and industry entities.
  • You will manage fixed asset ledgers, including accounting for acquisitions, depreciation expense, and preparing reconciliations.
  • You will prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations of balance sheet general ledger accounts.
  • You will be actively involved in supporting the timely month-end close process.

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or an Associate’s degree or at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience is a plus.
  • Technical knowledge using MS Office systems, including high proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written, and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Works flexibly and embraces change.

Other details:

This is a full-time exempt position, with excellent benefits and generous time off. The posting range is $59,000 – $63,000 a year. We work in a hybrid model, two days in the office, and three days at home. This position is based out of our headquarters in Brunswick, ME.
