The Finance Manager is a member of the Finance SSC leadership team and is responsible for engaging in solution-oriented conversations to solve for complex problems, approaching change management in a positive manner, and advancing the University of Kansas’ mission to the best of their ability.
The SSC Finance Manager will provide meaningful, timely and professional support to their team who execute financial transactions on behalf of the academic, research, and administrative units at the University of Kansas. The SSC Accounting Finance Manager will report to the SSC Director.

- Oversee development and performance of direct reports by supporting professional development opportunities, providing technical training required for Finance SSC positions, communicating clear performance expectations, seeking employee feedback, and addressing performance concerns in a timely manner.
- Possess a strong understanding of financial transaction policies, procedures and workflow processes required to solve complex problems, serve as a resource for staff, and educate campus partners.
- Engage with team members frequently through individual check-in meetings, team meetings, and other engagements designed to build a sense of belonging and community.
- Complete required reporting and utilize data analysis skills to ensure equitable, manageable work distribution while ensuring a quality work product is delivered.
- Build relationships with campus partners to ensure that financial transactions are managed to meet the university goals and mission.
- Work collaboratively with Peer Trainer on hiring team members, on-going training opportunities, and all staff professional development activities.
- Collaborate with team members and campus partners to escalate and resolve service delivery challenges.
- Evaluate opportunities to improve internal processes to ensure efficient, best-in-class processes are implemented and executed within the Finance Shared Service Center organization.
- Partner with campus stakeholders to support process improvement initiatives which directly impact the Finance Shared Service Center organization.
- Develop and deliver clear, concise communication in various methods to reach intended audiences of direct reports, campus partners, suppliers, and various other stakeholders.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries in a timely manner.
- Openly communicate with the Finance SSC Director to ensure challenges and issues are escalated accordingly, and accolades are bestowed upon deserving team members and campus partners.

- Bachelor's degree plus four years related professional-level work experience OR a high school degree/GED plus eight years of related professional-level work experience.
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Computer skills in a PC/Windows environment including MS Word and MS Excel as demonstrated by application materials and previous experience.
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail as demonstrated by application materials.
- Master’s degree in business administration or related field
- Experience using a financial ERP, e.g., Oracle Financials
- Two years supervisory experience with full-time, professional staff.
- Strong understanding of, and experience with, process mapping and process improvement.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience researching and analyzing complex data to develop accurate reports, identifying valid solutions, forecasting consequences of proposed action, and implementing a course of action.
- Proven experience working independently in a team environment, prioritizing completing responsibilities, solving complex problems, and adapting to change productively as demonstrated by application materials.
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with campus partners.
